The statue bears the inscription "For if we can offer our students anything at all, let us offer them the gift of knowledge." The school is well known for starting a "Green Day" tradition which encourages students and staff to dress in green to show support for environmental awareness. Since then, the tradition has spread to other schools within the area, making Lambton High School well known throughout Newcastle.
