In August 2004, Takamatsu was electedselected [[Japan national under-23 football team|Japan U-23 national team]] for [[Football at the 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament|2004 Summer Olympics]]. He played all 3 matches and scored a goal against [[Italy national under-21 football team|Italy]].
 
The 2006 season turned out to be the most prolific season for him scoring 12 league goals.
