Nobody signs a bad connectivity agreement on purpose. But all too often, the details that matter most never make it into the sales deck. SGP.32 doesn't create vendor lock-in. Hidden implementation choices and contract terms do. And if you don't know where to look, you won't find them until your devices are already in the field, when switching is most expensive. The good news? Asking the right questions can save you years of vendor lock-in. Before you sign with an IoT connectivity provider, ask: 1️⃣ Can our devices download profiles from any GSMA-compliant SM-DP+? 2️⃣ Can the eUICCs be re-associated with a different eIM? 3️⃣ Can we delete the bootstrap profile once we've moved on? 4️⃣ Will you work with eUICCs we source ourselves? 5️⃣ Which vendors have you actually tested with in production? 6️⃣ What happens to our ops if we switch? Scale exposes problems you never see in testing. The trick is staying one step ahead. Picture this: a manufacturing line is running end-of-line quality control on a few thousand devices. They all finish within a few minutes of each other. And suddenly, every single one of those SIMs tries to register on the nearest cell tower. At the exact same time. You can probably guess what happens next. The tower gets overwhelmed. And not because anything is broken: the SIMs work, the network works. It’s the timing that’s the issue. It's one of those failure modes that looks like a connectivity problem but is actually a production-planning issue. So, if you're manufacturing at any real scale, there’s one thing worth asking: Can your connectivity provider stagger activations to avoid this? If they don't have an answer, that's a red flag worth noting before you're mid-production and caught off guard.
