okay, so i've been spinning this Mystical Journey comp by Dubnotic and Mystical Voyager like it's 3am and i can't sleep again. honestly? didn't expect to fall this hard into a 2016 release i just stumbled on. but damn, it hit different. first off - the vibe. it's not just "chill" or "ambient" like some lazy background noise. nah, this feels alive. like the kind of music you'd hear if your dreams had basslines. there's dub, yeah, deep and wobbly, but also this tribal pulse under everything. like someone lit incense in a cave and wired it to a synth. tracks like "Axiom Esti" and "Shamans" - lowkey gave me chills. not spooky, more like... spiritual? without being cringe about it. loved how they mixed styles. one minute it's all echoey drones ("Miditation" - that title says it all), next you're getting pulled into full-on psy-trance swirls with "Spinning The Consciousness". that track? nearly nine minutes of brain massage. didn't even notice time slipping. same with "Until Next Morning (Stratosphere Remix)" - ten-minute closer, perfect. felt like floating above clouds while someone slowly turns the volume knob on reality. but not everything clicked. "Crazy Thinks" kinda threw me off. too jumpy? didn't flow like the others. and "Dubconsious" - cool name, but felt a bit flat compared to its neighbors. maybe needed more space, less rush. also, why's Dr Lum's track first? "Pu Tai" is solid, but it's like easing into a pool then someone pushes you in. would've worked better mid-set. little sequencing quirks, you know? cover art though - mad shoutout to Martin Hawk. looks like a neon mandala bleeding into outer space. fits the sound exactly. and props to Uwe for mastering - everything's crisp but warm, like vinyl warmth without the crackle. this ain't party music. unless your party's in a dim tent at a festival at dawn. then yes, absolutely. it's for zoning out, journaling, staring at walls and seeing shapes. stuff that makes silence feel loud. funny thing? i kept thinking this was way older than 2016. sounded like a lost '90s psy-dub gem i missed. maybe that's the point. feels timeless. or maybe i'm just getting old and nostalgic for eras i never lived. anyway. if you're into anything from Banco de Gaia to early Shpongle, or just want music that doesn't treat your ears like a gym - check this. free on Bandcamp? wild. artists really out here giving away magic.
