Here's the full-calorie challenge!

Day 4, I will: Leave feedback on a fanwork focusing on a character of color, OR leave feedback on a fanwork focusing on a female character.

So, I left happy praise for [personal profile] thingswithwings's new Leverage vid, "Parachute". It's an OT3 vid Alec/Parker/Elliot, so lots of focus on a female character AND a character of color.

It's an excellent vid. You should go see!

As [personal profile] canon_is_relative says, you know how a good fanvid can make you fall in love all over again with something you're already in love with?

Yeah. This.

Edit: What, what? A second new chapter! Is the epic epic of epicness completed?

I haven't been part of much of the Yuletide squee this past week because I got sick (yes, over Christmas ::eyeroll::). So that's where I've been.

However, if you saw Gravity, I have got to make a post to recommend my Yuletide gift this year. It's called Witness, and I honestly think it's the best story I've ever received for Yuletide. It's exactly what I asked for: a continuation of the movie with what happens to Ryan after she's picked up. My author wrote a much more full picture than I imagined--not only does she deal with Ryan's emotional shock but also she takes on the question of what would change for us here on Earth if the entire satellite system went down. I didn't even think that through, but that is what the movie depicted. Debris that could shred the Hubble would shred anything in its path. So this story is about Ryan and the whole planet reeling from the events of the movie, and then my author brilliantly wove Ryan's emotional arc back in to where she decides to get back in the game and help fix it. This story is really good.

It's on SyFy right now.

I turned on the TV to see if I could watch the worldwide simulcast commemorating 50 years of Doctor Who.

I can't because I don't get BBC America. :-(

But, bonus! (not) Stonehenge Apocalypse is on! I liveblogged it, when it first aired.

I'm so sorry, Mr. Wingfield.

Edit: Aaaand, in honor of this re-airing of SA, I post here a rec of a cracktastic SA/SPN crossover that made everything all right. *g* [personal profile] aithine linked to it in the comments of my liveblogged post. It is just about the best thing ever. Or at least, this week.

Title: Super Special Doomsday Cult #15
Author: pyrebi
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 3360
Spoilers: Through 5.22 Swan Song; all of Stonehenge Apocalypse
Pairings: Background Dean/Cas, Dean/Jacob UST (brb loling forever)
Notes: Oh look, a Stonehenge Apocalypse crossover employing some rather overused tropes. Also contains mentions of robot heads. You've been warned.
Summary: Dr. Jacob Glaser wakes up completely naked with two rather large men looming over him. He really misses his quiet life of late-night conspiracy radio shows.

I don't know Walking Dead, though the premise is not exactly hard to get, but it didn't matter in the least. It's amazing how well the Justified crew fit in in a post-apocalyptic zombie hellscape. I thoroughly enjoyed her voices for the Justified characters. She's always so good with voices. I bet she does an awesome job with the Walking Dead characters, too.

Anyway, Justified fans, you'll love reading this. It's so THEM.

Title: Pillar Spun of Dust and Blood
Fandom: Justified, The Walking Dead (crossover)
Summary: A man in a hat meets a boy in a hat, following the zombie apocalypse.

An oldie but a goodie.

Expecting Someone Taller, by Tom Holt

For a thousand years, Fafnir the Giant has held The Ring, while Wotan, Alberich and the Rhinedaughters, among others, have searched for it. Owning the Ring makes Fafnir functionally the ruler of the world, so it's understandable that Wotan takes issue with that. Fafnir eluded all their searches by living as a badger and his bitter thoughts have affected how the Ring has shaped the world since then.

Malcolm Fisher, the world's most unprepossessing man, hits the badger with his car and thus inherits the Ring and ultimate power. What's so much fun about this book is the ways in which Malcolm's low-self-esteem and lack of any belief in his own entitlement makes him pretty much the perfect ruler of the world. It's great for all of us that he has the Ring, but Wotan and crew can tell the Ring has changed hands and now they are all on the hunt for the new Ringbearer.

It's weird, though, to read a book from my youth that, because it was written in the 80s, makes no use of cell phones or the internet. Still well worth it.

Title: Shatter
Author: [personal profile] aria
Fandom: Thor(2011)
Words: 32,209
Rating: NC-17, M/M slash Thor/Loki
Info: AU where Odin banishes Loki instead of Thor. This is an intense Loki-centric story which parallels the movie plot, except Loki gets banished to Midgard instead of Thor, and it is Loki who meets Jane, Darcy and Selvig. Many Loki POV stories make Thor oafish, but this one doesn't, quite. Thor is his earnest self, trying to love a broken ("shattered"), angry, hurt and malicious Loki. Loki's thoughts, meanwhile, are some of the best character introspection for Loki I've read, and the thing I loved most about this story is that by the end I actually understood how Midgardian physics and Asgardian magic could be the same. She does a FANTASTIC job with that. The porn is hot but brief and comes so late in the story I'd honestly forgotten it was going to be a slash fic.

Yeah, this is probably another story I don't really need to rec, since everyone's already found it, but in case you read my journal without surfing around for great Marvel Universe fics on your own, consider this one highly recommended.

Yesterday I met up with local fen *waves* and among other wonderful things, learned of this Club Vivid vid. It makes me so happy, I just like to watch it periodically, usually a couple of times in a row.

I don't rec vids often. I don't watch them often, tbh, so if I'm breaking any protocols or conventions in my linking it here, please let me know.

This last part has Tasha dressed, as Darcy puts it, less as a tourist and more to mock them. It has amateur robbers who picked the wrong diner. It has Fury being dry and crafty, and all the rest of them being so themselves. Oh, and lumberjacks who are okay.

Not only is it a great story, it has the bestest title:

Stark, A.E., and Banner, R. Bruce. (2013). "Biodosimetric Tools for Measuring Induced Isomeric Transition in Inverted Paired States." International Journal of Radiation Biology 89.9, 43-85 by [personal profile] thingswithwings

The only problem with the title, as [personal profile] lunaris1013 said, is when you want to tell someone about it. Then you have to fall back on "The story where Bruce and Tony have sex FOR SCIENCE."

Which, I KNOW, while it's a popular pairing, you have to admit it's unlikely. Particularly when I tell you Tony also has sex with The Hulk. But it's FOR SCIENCE, srsly, she makes it believable. I highly recommend.

Totally not Gen or SFW.

She's done it again! Hilarious and in-character and I don't know what to tell you without spoiling. Here's her own teaser:

"Someone just reported to SHIELD that whatever was stolen produced “viable offspring,” and we’re hoping that doesn’t mean what we think it does,” Bruce says, evidently deciding to take over for Tony after only one masturbation joke.

Yes, I know this has probably been recced everywhere by now, but I want to go on record as adoring it. The little details in it like Cupcake Avalanche, and the ballerina with Hulk hands, and Captain America owning a radio but no TV (and what that does to Tony's brain). Thor makes me literally LOL whenever he gets mentioned. This is just superlative.

At a tenth the length of Semaphore, I found this one as satisfying in terms of characters and dialogue. It's also about the Avengers moving in to Stark Tower. I loved how Clint does it. *g*

It seems in White Collar, I mostly write missing scenes or tag scenes to episodes. A lot of other people write them, too. So, I have arranged my fics by what episode they are related to, and I've thrown in fics I've recced, if they are episode-related. (I may add more of those.)Read more... )

All These Roads Lead Home

The premise is that the members of the White Collar division circulate a b-day card and throw a small party in the office whenever anyone has a birthday, and Neal's turn comes around, but this story manages to be a lot more than that. It's set after Kate's death, when Peter thinks Neal may be a little fragile, but there's not any over-the-topness about it. It's really nicely done.

I think my favorite element in it is how Peter doesn't trust that the "official" birthday for Neal Caffrey is real, so he schedules a different date for Neal's celebration.

Day he was released into my custody," Peter said. "If he's still here when that day comes around again, he's earned his damn cake.
