Mar. 8th, 2026 05:10 pmblueswanI can't go on keeping up a pleasant front when I have learned the American government had a plan on how to dismantle my country and turn it into a vassal state. I'm heart broken over this. Thankfully we have Carney and an American whistle blower who stopped this plan before it got off the ground. Before learning this I thought it was the American president and wondered how he got that kind of power. Now I know it was some members of the American government and I JUST CAN'T.
There are family members and friends living in that country. I don't hold ill feelings for any of them. But I am now wondering how deep into the population of the US does the feeling the neighbour to the north would be a good place to see end.
I don't know how to explain why I care so deeply, but it's like finding out a friendly neighbour has been killing the pets in the neighbourhood. Betrayed, stupid for thinking that we were in a simpatico relationship.
We are not neighbours or allies or friends, we are a target!
This is not directed at anyone personally. It's not about you - unless it is. Thanks for all the good times, the fun, the travel, the adventures, the fic.

week 2 of war / 22 of life-to-be

TV: Am all caught up on Shrinking, The Pitt, Grey's (yes, still), most other shows I'm following. Started Young Sherlock, will probably continue. Started Vladimir, will probably not.
Raading: I have finished all of Ari Baran's books, have downloaded samples of basically every sports romance I could find recommended anywhere and am starting to explore them one by one, currently finishing E. L. Massey's Like Real People Do. Am definitely in the market for (a) sports romances you've loved recently, (b) general romances you've loved recently, (c) general novels you've loved recently that will kick me off this sports romance binge, and (d) your absolute heart-clenchingly favorite 20k+ Heated Rivalry fics.
(I read a bunch of HR fic after the show finished airing, and not really since. It's hard to find by kudos simply due to the massive volumes of kudos in this fandom and the bias towards popular fic posted earlier; I enjoyed various WAG-group-chat and epistolary/online media fics that I read early on, but at some point they started feeling a little repetitive and at this point what I'd really like is just: really fucking good long or semi-long fics that make you feel a lot of feels.)

We Welcome a Shadow
Mar. 7th, 2026 07:51 pmjesse_the_kA dozen days ago we brought home Shadow from Underdog Pet Rescue (where we found Bella ten years ago).
Shadow’s had a hard life: not only was he abandoned by his family to live in the street, he got heartworm. Underdog has been treating him, and we have to continue to enforce rest for another 5 weeks. We must walk him on leash even for quick potty trips in the back yard.
He's a skinny minnie — around 40 pounds. He's got super-sleek short shiny black fur — unlike our previous dogs, he's single-coated. He's got maybe 47 white hairs at various spots around his body. There’s a clumpy stripe of white on his chest, but he hasn’t felt comfortable enough to show us his belly yet. Between his ears he’s got the wide head of a pitty, but his nose is long and thin.
We're looking forward to buoying Shadow with the love he needs, and grateful that retirement offers the time. For the first few days his muscles were always tense, and when we moved a hand anywhere within ten feet he'd flinch. He's beginning to unclench, and we've even seen his tail wag a couple times. While we're all bored without romping and long walks, it's a good time to shower him with stinky treats for learning his name and beginning to trust us. He walks pretty well on lead and already knows leave it, ignoring a treat sitting in the middle of my flat palm 6 inches from his nose.
His triangular ears have floppy tips — the left one is always down. His back has two shaved bare squares where the vets injected the second and third doses of arsenic to kill the heartworm parasites. His soulful eyes were so tight in the first week we saw nothing but deep brown iris. Today when Shadow and I were hiding from The Evil Vacuum Cleaner in my bedroom, I finally saw some white in his gaze.

My garden contains flowers. Flowers attract pollinators. Tabby Little has brought in four monarch butterflies this summer. Very much not so good.

Mar. 7th, 2026 03:46 pmsettiaiThe extended stay hotel that I've been living in for over a year-and-a-half is being sold, so I've been desperately trying to find somewhere else to move. Through a lot of luck, I think that I've found a basement apartment in the home of an older woman nearby if I can get the money together to cover the deposit and first month's rent sooner rather than later. Which leads to this post. I don't have a lot left to try to sell right now, at least not until I really go digging in my storage unit to see what all is there, but I'm going to try to sell what I can in the hope of raising enough to get this apartment.

Heated Rivalry

I did try to get into it last year- my brain was not braining in the right direction to make that feasible. I suspect a lot of that might have been due to the uncertainty of whether a second season would be happening and I didn't want to get invested in something only to have it brutally yanked away. (I'm still furious that My Lady Jane didn't get a S2).
I had a day off on Tuesday, spent the afternoon noodling around online as I figured if I couldn't get into the show I would at least enjoy the unhinged glory of watching soundbites of the cast interviews and reading and bunch of articles. (Yes I'm aware of Ember and Ice, and yes I will be listening to that too).
One thing led to another and I started watching Heated Rivalry at 7pm thinking I'd do an episode a day.
UM.
By 1am Wednesday I'd watched all the eps, bought the books and was whatsapping (ravurian and gingerpig) tragic messages along the lines of "yes I'm 4 months late, talk to me about HR".
I was also patting myself on the back for having the foresight to 'add to memory' a lot of the DW posts that had been on my circle over the last 4 months clarifying the timeline (thank youmific) and making videos and fic recs.
First rewatch completed today and fully expect to complete another by the end of the weekend or I might dive in to the EmptyNetters reactions which I gather are highly recommended.
All of which is a longwinded way of saying I am down for talking about the show, the delightfully unhinged cast interviews (a gift that keeps on giving), the soundtrack, the books (I'll be finishing Game Changers this weekend), and anything related to the upcoming S2 which I am led to believe starts shooting this summer.
