---

Clics uses an **event-based billing system**. Your plan includes a monthly event allotment based on the traffic volume you choose. Pageviews and custom events count toward that allotment.

For current prices, visit the [pricing page](https://clics.dev/pricing).

:::note
Invoices are billed in **US Dollars (USD)**. Annual billing saves two months compared with paying month to month.
:::

Manage your subscription in the dashboard under **Settings → Billing**.

## Overview

| Concept | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| **Events** | Pageviews and custom events ingested for your workspace |
| **Projects** | Sites tracked in the workspace (hard limit on Pro) |
| **Trial** | 30 days, no credit card; dashboard and tracking unlocked |
| **Paid plan** | Required for API keys, REST API, MCP, and CLI against the API |

## Events

Events are the unit of usage. Each accepted tracking hit counts as **one event**, including:

- Automatic **pageviews** from the tracker
- **Custom events** sent with `track()` (see [Custom Events](/custom-events))

Your monthly allotment is set by the volume tier on your plan (from 10K to 10M events per month on self-serve plans). Usage resets with each billing cycle. You can monitor current usage on **Settings → Billing**.

### Soft limit vs hard limit

| Resource | When you hit the limit |
| --- | --- |
| **Events** | Soft limit. Tracking continues; usage still shows in the billing UI |
| **Projects** | Hard limit. Creating another project fails until you upgrade or free a slot |

:::note
Tracking requires an **active subscription** (trial or paid). If the subscription ends and is not renewed, ingestion stops until you choose a plan again.
:::

### Volume tiers

Self-serve Pro and Business plans use these monthly event bands:

`10K` · `100K` · `200K` · `500K` · `1M` · `2M` · `5M` · `10M`

Above 10M, or for custom terms, use **Enterprise**.

Exact prices change with volume and billing interval. Always confirm on [clics.dev/pricing](https://clics.dev/pricing).

## Plans

| | **Pro** | **Business** | **Enterprise** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Monthly events** | Volume tier (10K–10M) | Volume tier (10K–10M) | Custom |
| **Data retention** | 3 years | 5 years | Custom |
| **Members** | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| **Projects** | Up to 10 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| **Support** | Email | Slack and priority | Dedicated |
| **AI Analytics** | - | Included | Custom |
| **Security** | Standard | Standard | SSO, SCIM, custom |

Both Pro and Business offer a **30-day free trial** with no credit card required. Yearly billing is available at a discount (two months free).

### Trial vs paid

| Capability | Active trial | Paid (post-trial) | No active subscription |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Dashboard | Yes | Yes | Blocked until you pick a plan |
| Tracking | Yes | Yes | Stopped |
| API keys, REST API, local MCP, CLI | Yes | Yes | No |
| Remote OAuth MCP | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| AI Analytics (Business) | Per plan features | Yes on Business | - |

:::warning
API keys, the REST API, local [MCP](/mcp), and the [CLI](/cli-and-skills) require an **active trial or paid plan**. Remote OAuth MCP is available on every plan.
:::

## API and MCP access

During an active trial or after subscribing to a paid plan:

1. Create an API key under **Settings → API keys**
2. Call the [REST API](/reference) with `Authorization: Bearer …`
3. Or connect [MCP](/mcp) / use the [CLI](/cli-and-skills)

After the trial expires, if the workspace has no paid subscription, REST API and API-key-backed MCP/CLI calls return:

```json
{
  "error": "API requires an active trial or paid plan",
  "code": "UPGRADE_REQUIRED"
}
```

HTTP status: `403`.

## Manage your subscription

From **Settings → Billing** you can:

- See event and project usage against your plan
- Change volume tier (Pro or Business)
- Switch between monthly and yearly billing
- Upgrade or downgrade plans
- Open the customer portal for payment methods and invoices (**Settings → Invoices**)

Payments and the customer portal are processed with Stripe.

### Upgrades and downgrades

- **Upgrades** apply when payment succeeds; new limits (events, projects, features) take effect for the workspace
- **Downgrades** follow your billing provider’s schedule (typically next renewal for plan changes). Check the billing UI for the effective date

## Running out of events or losing access

| Situation | What happens | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Monthly event allotment reached | Tracking continues (soft limit) | Upgrade volume on **Settings → Billing** if you need headroom |
| Project limit reached (Pro) | New projects cannot be created | Upgrade to Business/Enterprise or remove a project |
| Trial ended, no paid plan | Dashboard wall; tracking stops | Subscribe on [pricing](https://clics.dev/pricing) or Billing |
| REST/local MCP after an expired trial | `403 UPGRADE_REQUIRED` | Move to a paid plan or use remote OAuth MCP |

## Enterprise
