Ranger’s Apprentice – Ruin of Golan – Review
Beberapa minggu ini, aku mengisi waktu senggangku dengan membaca seri novel karya John Flanagan: Ranger’s Apprentice. Aku baru menyelesaikan 2 buku pertamanya, Ruin of Golan dan Burning Bridge.
Ruin of Golan bercerita tentang Will, seorang yatim piatu yang hidup di kastil Baron Arald, sebuah kastil di Kerajaan Araulen. Dalam kastil itu ada sebuah event yang disebut “Choosing Day” dimana para yatim itu akan menjadi murid(atau apprentice, asal judul seri ini) dari seorang Craftmaster(ahli di bidang tertentu). Teman-teman Will: Horace Altman, Alyss Mainwaring, Jennifer Dalby(Jenny), and George Carter sudah yakin akan masuk ke sekolah pilihan masing-masing. Horace akan masuk Battleschool, tempat mereka mendidik ksatria, Alyss akan masuk Diplomatic Service untuk belajar menjadi diplomat, Jenny akan masuk Cooking School untuk belajar masak, dan George akan masuk Scribeschool untuk belajar soal hukum.
Will sendiri ingin masuk ke Battleschool, tapi tubuhnya yang kecil, beda dengan Horace yang tinggi tegap, membuatnya tidak cocok menjadi ksatria. Will pun tidak diterima di sekolah kedua pilihannya: Horseschool, sekolah para pengurus kuda karena Horsemaster tidak yakin badannya yang kecil mampu mengurus kuda. Read the rest of this entry
Wanita-wanita dalam karya Pram
Wanita-wanita yang dibahas di bawah ini adalah wanita dalam karya Pram. Untuk lebih jelasnya silahkan baca Tetralogi Buru dan Arok Dedes.
Berikut pembahasannya (Spoiler Alert):
- Nyai Ontosoroh, wanita ini dipaksa kawin dengan Robert Mellema, tapi akhirnya dia menyeka air matanya dan menjadi manajer bisnis keluarga yang mumpuni. Saat Pram mengajak kita menjelajah masa lalunya yang kelam, kita melihat Nyai Ontosoroh penuh dengan dendam. Dendam pada ayahnya yang menjualnya ke Robert Mellema demi posisi di pabrik gula, dendam pada ibunya yang lemah dan tidak berdaya, dan dendam pada Robert Mellema.
Pada akhirnya, kita melihat Nyai Ontosoroh tumbuh menjadi wanita yang kuat, bijak, dan pejuang tangguh dalam menghadapi kehidupan. I have few interesting links I found, some of them outdated but still relevant.
- How RIAA sue unsuspecting citizen for P2P file sharing. With new UU HAKI and US pressure, maybe we are next, gentlement. Spark an idea for next piracy post.
- How to code more secure. For now, it’s bear few use for me. But sometimes in the future I might need it.
