Om os

We are the research community within the GN Group. Communication begins in the human body. That’s why GN Advanced Science grounds innovation in biology. By designing technology in symbiosis with human perception, we don’t just improve communication; we intelligently augment it. Together with partners and colleagues across GN, we turn advanced science into seamless, real-world innovations that reshape how people experience connection. Because when technology follows human nature, communication becomes invisible—and people feel closer than ever. Our global team of scientists and engineers collaborates with top academic institutions, government agencies, and forward-thinking industry partners to develop transformative solutions that are revolutionizing communication and enhancing lives around the globe.

  • What are you curious about?    Most people don’t really see how much goes into hearing aids. There’s a lot of science behind them: research, testing, and constant work to understand what actually helps in real life — not just in theory.    At GN Advanced Science, our work often starts with questions about real-world listening: how people hear in everyday situations, what makes conversations easier, and how to measure things like comfort and clarity in a meaningful way.    So, we wanted to ask: what are you curious about? What have you always wanted to know about hearing aids? Drop it in the comments. We’d love to hear it, and it might help shape what we share next.   #Research #BringingPeopleCloser #HearingHealth #Audiology

  • Finalized PhD – Congratulations to Alessandro Cerioli! We are delighted to share that Alessandro Cerioli has successfully defended his PhD thesis, “Neural Network Optimization for Predictable Real-Time Edge Devices: Towards Deterministic Inference on Embedded Systems,” carried out in collaboration with DTU Compute and the Advanced Science team at GN Hearing. We wish him all the best in his next chapter as a Postdoctoral researcher at DTU Compute#PhD #AI #HearingDevices #Innovation #GN

  • Audio Engineering Society 2026 Europe Convention A couple weeks ago, the AES Convention took place at DTU in Denmark — and our group was there. Industrial PhD student Roberta Dattilo gave a presentation on Artificial ear for bone-conducted vibrations, simulation and measurement and won the best student paper award. Roberta is supervised by Senior Research Scientist Yu Luan (GN) and Associate Professor Yang Zhang (张阳) (DTU). Also, Sara Madsen, one of our Senior Research Scientists, was invited to join a panel on 'Audio engineering for listeners with hearing loss'. The panel was organized by the Cadenza Project Team, led by Professor Trevor Cox, and also included Professor Joshua Reiss and Adam Steed, production manager at the Contact Theatre in Manchester. The discussion sparked great questions and lively audience engagement. #AES #DTU #AudioEngineering

  • It is with great pleasure that we share that Riccardo Miccini has successfully defended his PhD thesis: “Static, Scalable, and Dynamic Compression Strategies for Efficient Neural Speech Processing”. The PhD was conducted in collaboration between DTU Compute and the Research & Exploration team at GN, with a focus on making neural speech processing more efficient and scalable for practical audio applications. The project was fully funded by the European Union’s Horizon research and innovation program under grant agreement No 101070374. Congratulations to Riccardo on this important milestone, and thanks to everyone involved in the collaboration. #Gn #GNAdvancedScience #Research #BringingPeopleCloser #SpeechProcessing

  • Imagine a place where scientific inquiry seamlessly integrates with the latest advancements in communication advancement. We’re excited to see GN's Chief Scientific Officer Andrew Dittberner and Vanderbilt University's Professor Todd Ricketts join Adam Savage on Tested to explore how hearing‑aid technology has advanced and what’s next for hearing instrument technology. The conversation touches on digital signal processing, miniaturization, wireless/Bluetooth connectivity, battery and power efficiency, and the growing role of AI and personalization in fitting and user experience. Andrew highlights GN’s work translating research into real‑world products, and Todd brings valuable clinical and academic perspective.  Watch the full discussion: https://lnkd.in/gKz8TQiJ Which development in hearing technology do you find most exciting? • Thank you for an amazing GN Advanced Science Conference Two days, hundreds of curious minds, and one shared goal: exploring where GN’s research and technology can go next. At the heart of the GN Advanced Science Conference are the people behind the work: scientists and engineers sharing what they’ve built through posters, demos, and conversation and everyone who joined in with questions, feedback, and new connections across teams, sites, and disciplines. From detailed discussions of long‑term research to conversations about GN’s future technologies, the discussions in the rooms showed just how much is happening across the company – and how much we can do when we build on each other’s work. Huge thanks to everyone who presented, participated, organized, supported, and generally made these two days fun, and inspiring. Let’s keep the momentum going and turn all these ideas and new connections into what comes next. #GN #GNAdvancedScience #Research #BringingPeopleCloser

  • GN Advanced Science 16th Annual Conference Day 2 of the GN Advanced Science Conference is all about future technology. We’re zooming in on GN’s evolving research and how advanced science can shape the next wave of how people connect and communicate. Throughout the day, we’re unpacking where GN’s technology is headed and how advanced research can grow into the products, services, and experiences that will shape how people connect across GN in the future. Today’s session features a guest keynote by assistant professor, Thea Klaeboe Aarrestad, PhD, at ETH Zurich: “Machine Learning at the Edge of Scale and Speed: Nanosecond inference at the CERN Large Hadron Collider” — pushing what’s possible when intelligence meets extreme performance. #GN #GNAdvancedScience #Research #BringingPeopleCloser

  • GN Advanced Science 16th Annual Conference Day 1 of the GN Advanced Science Conference is all about where we go next. We’re exploring new directions in computing, intelligence and complex systems, and we kicked off with our scientific and executive leaders sharing how advanced science can shape the future of how people connect and communicate. Throughout the day, we dug into long-term research – ideas and experiments aimed at what our products, services and experiences could look like 5–10 years from now. Sessions and conversations connect early-stage science with technology and product directions, leading into an afternoon poster and demo session showcasing work from across GN. Today’s session features a guest keynote by Professor Rafal Wisniewski, PhD from Aalborg University, titled “Quantum Computing Unveiled: Unlocking New Frontiers in Optimization and Machine Learning”—bringing the future closer to reality. We look forward to sharing more highlights as we move into Day 2. #GN #GNAdvancedScience #Research #BringingPeopleCloser

  • Welcome to GN Advanced Science – the science of bringing people closer. We believe communication should feel effortless and deeply human. That’s why we ground innovation in biology, studying the brain, senses, and behavior in the moments where hearing and listening matter most.     From this foundation, we design technologies in symbiosis with human perception—making communication more immersive, responsive, and almost invisible. As GN’s scientific epicentre, we unite medical, consumer, and professional expertise to create the core technologies that power GN’s breakthroughs.     This page is where we’ll share the science, ideas, and people behind that work. Follow us to see how we explore, invent, and translate research into experiences that help people feel closer than ever.    #GN #GNAdvancedScience #Research #BringingPeopleCloser
