  • ✨ English Tourism Week 2026: The Story of Wymondham Windmill 🌾

Step back in time at one of the region’s most charming heritage gems - Wymondham Windmill, a stunning five-story tower mill built around 1813–1814, crafted from local ironstone and topped with brick. It originally turned with six patent sails, a rare “Six Arm Lincolnshire Cross” design still seen on only a handful of mills across the UK.

For more than a century, the mill ground corn - first by wind, later by an oil powered engine - before milling stopped in 1952 and cattle feed production continued until 1960. Today, it stands as one of the country’s remaining six sailed mills and a beautiful reminder of our rural past.

Thanks to dedicated restoration efforts, including a major phase in 2016 supported by European and Lottery funding, the windmill has been lovingly brought back to life. Visitors can now explore a 7 acre site featuring a tearoom, wild woodland, boutique shops, and the restored tower itself - welcoming thousands of visitors a year.
