I woke with a headache, thankfully not migraine level; but that still meant a fairly low-key morning. I remembered to tune into the Caps game, albeit a few minutes after it started, and spent intermissions tidying up a bit and (of course) reading fic. Sadly, the Caps lost. Not! what I wanted, especially to the Bruins (I still harbour an irrational hatred of that team). Afterwards the Rangers played the Devils, which I kept on for background noise. I wasn't really paying attention and kept hearing J'accuse" which puzzled me, until I realized the announcer was saying 'Jack Hughes'.
Get a Taste of Coastal Europe Through These Seven Spirits
From aquavit to pastis, these libations have notes of flavor and history
Coastal European cities have long been associated with strong local spirits that loosened up the local gentry, sealed business deals and fortified sailors for harrowing sea journeys. While there are dozens of distinctive varieties found across the continent, each one’s unique history can be traced to a common origin: trade routes established by Genoese traders in the 14th century.
Oh fuck, it's daylight savings. How lovely - my sleep is going to be even more fucked up for at least a week. How I (don't) love this time of year! Why the hell can't we just abolish it altogether? BC is just waiting on the West Coast states to join - they've already done the legislative work to make it happen there, if we can manage to do the same.
Cats with really cool/unusual coats
Question of the Day
It’s International Women’s Day – can you name any famous female artists, musicians, scientists or authors?
why yes, yes I can. without really thinking about it, I can come up with lots of names from all categories. but to save space, here's one for each:
artists - Georgia O'Keefe
musicians - Pat Benatar
scientists - Hedy Lamarr (an actress, but also inventor of a radio guidance system in WWII)
authors - Rumer Godden
The frequent mentions of handshake lines after ordinary games in HR fics bugs me - that's a playoffs/tournament sort of thing. I'm blaming the Junior tournaments in Ep 1 for all the writers including that in their fics. People who don't know hockey apparently assume they happen at every game?
I've long had a fondness for bulldogs & Frenchies, and have deplored the inbreeding that's led to shortened snouts for the breeds. My dad had a bulldog in the early 50s, and looking at photos it's almost like a different breed, with a much less squashed face.
These 12 Popular Dog Breeds Are at Risk of Breathing Problems Related to Their Short Snouts, a New Study Suggests
Past research on brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome—a chronic, hereditary disease associated with flat faces—has focused mainly on just three breeds
For breeders and pet parents, the findings reaffirm the potential consequences of artificially selecting and intentionally breeding dogs to have unnaturally short skulls. The researchers hope their findings will raise awareness about BOAS and encourage pet parents, breeders and dog competition judges to select dogs that are less likely to be affected by the condition, per the statement.

Those cats do have beautiful coats. They're stunning, and amazing how often come with different coloured eyes.

yeah, bulldogs have definitely been overbred to the point of being ruined. it'd be great if someone could go back and kick the idiots who decided to breed for specific traits. that's not the only breed in trouble, of course, but it's so obvious with them
