Called On Account of Rain
Mar. 11th, 2026 08:35 pmSo I did nothing but taxes (smaller refund and less pay in general, shocker) and grading ALL the things. I worked from 11-7. My brain is tired now.
So you'll get my books and one thing I've been forgetting for forever.
What I Just Finished Reading:
At Death's Dough - a so-so mystery. It took forever to get started and the ending was dumb
The Final Problem - mystery set in the 60s talk about dumb endings
I Want to be a Wall - a lavender marriage with an aro-ace BL loving girl and a gay man in love with his childhood friend. It was decent but not even for me to read more.
What I am Currently Reading:
The Snow Child - so far depressing. It's for my ugly prompt of dealing with infertility. It's a retelling of the
Violet Thistlewaite is not a villain any more so far, I really like this one
What I Plan to Read Next: With Friends Like These, La Grand Familia, and Luna Park history
I keep forgetting to post about
This is what I have so far (too tired to link them up, sorry, also I need to get up soon. Been sitting too long)

Library Update #26: End of Darkness
Mar. 11th, 2026 02:40 pmYesterday morning the electricians were here. They 1) installed the new, dimmable track lighting in the family room, 2) replaced a partially broken overhead light in Katie’s room with a new fixture and dimmer switch, 3) repaired a GFI outlet in the kitchen which had been permanently interrupted, and 4) added one more track head lamp in the NE corner of my home office. The work took four hours – from 7:00 am to 11:00 am.
![]() iPhone 13 mini photo |
The new track lighting necessitated running power under the floor to a new light switch. Holes had to be cut into drywall so that wiring could be run. The drywall will get repaired in the near future.
The new lighting – everywhere – looks great. Previously, there was no overhead lighting in the family room, so the new media library and storage cabinets were dim. Now it’s much easier to see and find things.

One remaining task is installing a new carpet runner in the entryway. The carpet is here but not installed as my interior designer was sick and didn’t want to enter the house. Once the drywall is patched and the carpet runner installed, Phase III of construction will be complete. (I still have months of item sorting / reorganization / giveaway to conduct. The remodel project will be complete when I can get Shizu back into the garage.)

Just One Thing (11 March 2026)
Mar. 11th, 2026 08:00 amComment with Just One Thing you've accomplished in the last 24 hours or so. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing that you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.
Feel free to share more than one thing if you're feeling particularly accomplished! Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!
Nothing is too big, too small, too strange or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened. I will only unscreen if you ask me to.
Go!
I did a thing
Mar. 10th, 2026 10:49 pmToday mom and I went out to meet my younger cousin for her birthday and went off to Trader Joe's. I wish I had one closer to me. Mine is 90 miles off in Columbus. Even here the closet one is about 35 minutes away. Picked up some cool things.
The writing zoom went well tonight too.
So for fannish 50 I have something from
i. Look at your last 10** fics.
ii. Make a list of their first lines of dialogue, with any necessary description. No cheating, I mean don't go through your fics looking for the best line of dialogue.
iii. Post them and we'll see if we can guess what the story will be about from the dialogue.
Kitarella also mentioned it's okay to go back further than the last 10 if the opening dialogue isn't that interesting.
Feel free to play along
( here's mine )
G'day
Mar. 11th, 2026 12:17 pmAge: Old enough to know better. A former LiveJournal user from the 90s
I mostly post about: Life, random thoughts, work, observations, whatever comes to mind
My hobbies are: Reading, movies, sport (cricket, F1, hockey (real not ice), australian rules football, and a few others), science, psychology - I like a little bit of all things, realy - history to anthropology, I'm there
My fandoms are: Do dogs count?
I'm looking to meet people who: Kind people, open minded, those who enjoy learning, ahve passions in their lives
My posting schedule tends to be: sporadic
When I add people, my dealbreakers are: racists/sexists/fundamentalist religious nuts who believe their religion is better than others, genocide apologists, ignorant people, those who don't value science and intelligence
Before adding me, you should know: I have a pretty terrible sense of humour (by terrible I mean excellent) and I'm neurodiverse
Beet Red #30 [The Fulcrum]
Mar. 10th, 2026 03:40 pmStory: The Fulcrum
Colors: Beet Red #30: Live to fight another day
Styles and Supplies: Reimagining, Nubs, Chiaroscuro, Panorama
Word Count: 2324
Rating: T
Warnings: Non-Graphic Gun Violence
Characters: Setsiana
In-Universe Date: Night of 1912.8.5.1
Summary: Setsiana has a nightmare.
Notes: I've been posting the early parts of this story (so far up through the very long chapter where Cusäfä is introduced) to a critique site, and the consensus was that the first part of this story (this post) was not a good opening. Since the worldbuilding that's introduced there is not strictly relevant until the end of part one, I redid that scene as a nightmare that Setsiana has after they come back from the T'arsi Fair and she is introduced to guns for the first time (so, basically between this post and this post). I do want to revise it again based on additional feedback I've received on this version, but I figured I would post this second revision here.
This is also the first installment of a Beet Red Nubs tapestry that I'm going to be using in the future to write missing scenes from completed stories or Tales From the Neighborhood plot threads. I have ideas for most of the prompts, but most of them are not scheduled yet, and thus won't be posted for at least another year. I figure this can be both Nubs and Reimagining, since it is a rewrite but is now also chronologically during a period of time that was skipped over, initially.

Hello!
Mar. 10th, 2026 10:26 pmName: Oneinist, or One (they/them)
Age: Middle aged
I mostly post about: So far I've posted general journals, a bit of poetry, and some prompts from the
snowflake_challenge. I've posted in English and Japanese. I'm still figuring out what I want to post about. I have a Naruto/KKIR fandom Tumblr, but I haven't decided to what extent I'll be posting fannish content here yet. I feel like I might post thoughts on fandom? Or at least I would like to. I'll find an excuse to turn anything into a bingo board.
My hobbies are: I have too many hobbies, and I tend to cycle through them, but I also have some core ones like watching anime, reading Japanese BL manga and listening to BLCDs, cooking, baking, writing, journaling, drawing and crafting. My latest hyper-fixation is Obsidian (note organizing software), and along with it HTML and CSS. The intensity of it varies and sometimes I take breaks or have slumps from my main ones too.
My fandoms are: I'm only active in the Naruto/Boruto fandom, but I still enjoy a variety of fandoms/media. As an example, love Star Trek Voyager and Natsume Book of Friends too; I just haven't created anything for either. I grew up on 90s Sailor Moon anime, so that one holds a special place in my heart.
I'm looking to meet people who: Post about a mix of things that we both have in common and don't have in common, it doesn't have to be fandom related, and it's not a requirement to share fandoms. I enjoy reading about everyday life around the world, hobbies, thoughts and feelings. I'm hoping to build relationships slowly and steadily.
My posting schedule tends to be: I've sort of gotten into the habit of doing the
justcreate check-in on Mondays, and at the same time I catch up on reading and commenting. I also post then if I'm feeling inspired. That being said, I don't want to stress myself out by trying to explicitly keep some sort of schedule.
When I add people, my dealbreakers are: If you write mainly about Christianity from a practicing Christian perspective we are likely not a good match. I'm fine with more cultural or secularized aspects of Christianity like Christmas for example (I decorate extensively myself).
Before adding me, you should know: English is not my first language, and sometimes I misunderstand. I'm sure we can work it out though. I can also be a bit bad at asking questions (I process a lot through association, so my mind slips into "that reminds me of the time I..." as a way of connecting when I've read something). In all languages I write in, I struggle with missing letters and spelling. Because of that, I'm quite self-conscious about my writing, and I can only ask for a bit of patience and grace. My energy levels vary throughout the day as well as the year, and if I go from very chatty to not that chatty, it's me and not you.

Took a day off
Mar. 9th, 2026 08:57 pmI'm mostly here to do Music Monday and Women's history. Yes I missed saying something International Women's Day (I was beat) so today have the woman who started off my sabbatical research, someone I met in college and carried her story with me all these years Elizabeth Blackwell
As for music Monday, on the drive here the last radio station I go to (the one I listen to in this area) was having an International Women's Day fest by playing women artists (and mentioning iheartradio's women's history station) and in the next 1 1/2 hours they played 3 songs by women. 3...
So we can do better. THis monday I 'm taking a break from the list and let's just share songs written by, performed by women (however you care to define it)
( Women of Song )

Mar. 9th, 2026 04:03 pmAge: 30s
I mostly post about: Daily life - my thoughts, things I'm up to, things I've created (I'm an artist), my travels, movies I've watched, photos I've taken. The mundane and anything that grabs my interest. I try to find whimsy in everyday life, and I probably think too deeply about a lot of stuff.
My hobbies / interests are: Drawing, journaling on paper and stationery in general, reading fiction, watching movies, musical theatre, EGL fashion, playing The Sims 4 and Animal Crossing, Lego, learning languages, traveling whenever I can (usually on my own), and whatever actor I might be obsessed with at the moment.
I'm looking to meet people who: Thoughtful people who have similar interests and values. I'm looking for community and people I can connect with. I'm feeling very burnt out from social media and how loud and demanding it is with people just observing each other and nothing ever going any deeper than that. I miss feeling like I had actual friends on the internet, and learning about people's lives from all over.
My posting schedule tends to be: Whenever I feel like. Sometimes that might be daily, sometimes weekly. I try not to post any less than that.
When I add people, my deal breakers are: Bigots. People who exclusively post about fandom, fanfic, or book reviews and little else. As an artist, I'm anti-AI. And just mean, judgemental types, I don't have space for that kind of attitude in my life. Be kind or get out.
Before adding me, you should know: I have C-PTSD, hEDS, and I'm neurodivergent. I don't talk about these things much, but they exist in the background and shape much of my world.
Let's Go Karaoke Live Action
Mar. 9th, 2026 04:09 pmIf you're not familiar, I can also warmly recommend the 5 episode anime that's on Crunchyroll, if you have access.
I haven't read the manga or its sequel yet but I'm sure they're great fun too ;)

It's been super interesting to watch the movie after the anime and see the tweaks in the adaptation!! I think it all worked really well and I enjoyed it a lot. If you've also watched both (or any!!!!) you should talk to me actually :D
