My spidey sense is tingling. (Okay, anvils are falling from the sky.) We have a gay firefighter on Squad (and it's not Severide). It's Clarke, the new guy.

3x03, Cruz notices Clarke's wedding ring and invites him to a social function telling him to "bring his wife" and Clarke has his ring cut off by one of the guys on squad.

And then in this episode: When Mills is flirting taking Clarke out to a bar to shoot some pool and asks him why he hasn't plead his side of the case that he's not the snitch, Clarke replies, “No one asked, so I’m not telling.”

I kind of like how they've established how Clark (former Marine) can take the pressure of being the odd man out. I kind of wonder if he was the subject of a DADT witch hunt and learned to compartmentalize and ride it out that way.

But I also like how this whole thing gets at the fact that there are times and places where being a lesbian means you play by a very different rule set than a gay man does.

Shay's out and proud at the house, so Firehouse 51 is safer than some places, but Clarke also knows that it's a very, very different thing to have a gay man in your locker room.

Chicago Fire is a very uneven show; the bad parts are horrid; but the good parts are what keep me hanging on.

Me, too! That and I just really like the characters (plus = Stanley Cup and Phil Pritchard! Can't say that about many shows). You make some good points, and I was wondering some of the same things myself (caught up on all four eps last night). Should be an interesting season.
