📈 The RMB’s journey to becoming a global currency is picking up momentum. In our latest Deutsche Bank Research report by Perry Kojodjojo and Chen Kan, ‘The Rise of the RMB Financing Ecosystem’ we unpack the critical shift for the RMB from a trade-settlement currency to a dominant force in investment flows. Key takeaways include: 🐼 The Panda bond market is emerging as a channel for foreign entities to raise globally usable RMB, with over half of the proceeds now getting used offshore. 🥟 The Dim Sum bond market is rapidly developing into an asset hub for global investors, fuelled by diversification into tech and demand from Mainland China. The report draws a potential roadmap for this ecosystem, what this means for CNH rates and FX markets, and the opportunities for broader European corporate participation.

China's new policy package is likely to be a game-changer for the CNH market and a major strategic move to cement Hong Kong as the top offshore RMB hub. This isn't a minor tweak; it's the most significant push to date, confirming the offshore market is crucial for the RMB's long-term internationalization. In his latest RMB Internationalization Blog: A Pivotal Announcement for the CNH Market, Yi Xiong, Deutsche Bank’s Chief Economist for Greater China notes that the CNH market is now poised to overcome its size and liquidity constraints, creating a self-reinforcing growth cycle. It's the vital bridge connecting China's vast onshore financial market with the RMB's growing international use. The research report highlights three game-changing measures from the announcement: 1️⃣ More Liquidity 💧: The HKMA's RMB facility gets a massive boost to RMB 500bn, providing stable, long-term funding. 2️⃣ Wider Investment 🔗: The Southbound Bond Connect quota is increased to RMB 800bn, supercharging the Dim Sum bond market. 3️⃣ Better Capital Use 💡: Cross-border bonds can now be used as collateral, helping investors use assets more efficiently. This is a pivotal moment, providing a strong vote of confidence in Hong Kong's financial future and transforming the CNH landscape. #RMB #CNH #HongKong #Finance #FinancialMarkets #RMBInternationalization #BondConnect #Economics #PBOC #HKMA
