Mirror, mirror on the wall…🪞 In EUV lithography, mirrors don’t simply reflect an image. They guide, shape and control extreme ultraviolet light inside one of the most advanced manufacturing systems in the world. Why mirrors? Because EUV light is absorbed by almost every material. Instead of passing through lenses, it has to be directed by ultra-precise curved mirrors. And these EUV mirrors are anything but ordinary. With up to 100 atomic-scale layers of silicon and molybdenum, they can reflect up to 70% of the EUV light – enabling the patterning of some of the smallest structures in modern chip manufacturing.
