Award-Winning Engineering by Our Working Student Onur Kasap 🏆 Onur has won the prestigious Walter Gademann Prize for the best bachelor’s thesis in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Technical University of Munich. Carried out at Rohde & Schwarz under the supervision of Fabian Bette, he focused on the development of a novel measurement environment for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) - a key technology for future 6G networks. To achieve this, Onur developed and implemented an automated bistatic RIS measurement setup employing two Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR) systems. Collaborating closely with our training department, he designed, manufactured, and implemented the entire system. Onur was responsible for automating the measurement procedures, performing the RF calibration, aligning the system, and developing a digital twin to analyze measurement uncertainties. Even better: His results were directly used to validate a time-efficient monostatic RIS measurement approach invented here at Rohde & Schwarz, based on the R&S ATS1800C CATR chamber. This outstanding achievement highlights the real value created when students and R&D experts collaborate on eye-level. It’s young engineers like Onur who are shaping the technologies of tomorrow by making their ideas real. Huge congratulations, Onur, on this well-deserved award! We are incredibly proud to have you in the team. 👏 📷First photo taken by Christoph Gramann. Left: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Erwin Biebl (former Professor of High-Frequency Technology at TUM).
