Meet the GKS Team: Daniel Collins, SVP of Geosciences Some people study carbon storage. Dan Collins helped prove it will work. Dan was a principal consultant on the first-in-kind CO2 sequestration Frio Brine pilot demonstration project in the United States, and four decades later he is still reading the subsurface to guide how carbon gets stored safely underground. As SVP of Geosciences at Geostock Sandia, he has spent nearly three decades anchoring our geoscience work across the full Underground Injection Control (UIC) spectrum. His path to carbon storage runs through the heart of the energy industry. Dan started at Exxon as a Senior Geologist, mapping oil and gas plays and learning to read deep geology from well logs and subsurface structure. He moved into Underground Injection Control at DuPont in the late 1980s, directing Class I hazardous and non-hazardous deepwell disposal across 15 sites and authoring the Land Ban exemption petitions, EPA No-Migration Petitions, and state permits that kept them compliant. That arc, from exploration geology to UIC permitting to Class VI carbon storage, is exactly the range a CCUS project needs in one geoscientist. Ce mardi 19 mai, les équipes de Geostock ont participé à la traditionnelle Course Solidaire Interentreprises organisée par Special Olympics France à Rueil-Malmaison. Sur un parcours de 2,5 km, à courir ou à marcher, nos collaborateurs se sont mobilisés pour soutenir l’inclusion des personnes en situation de handicap intellectuel à travers le sport. Quatre groupes étaient au rendez-vous pour représenter Geostock : trois équipes de coureurs et une équipe de marcheurs. Mention spéciale à celles et ceux qui ont relevé le défi plusieurs fois en enchaînant les tours. Au-delà de l’effort sportif, cette participation a surtout été portée par un bel esprit d’équipe et l'envie de soutenir à une belle cause. Un grand merci à l’ensemble des participants et supporters pour leur mobilisation, leur énergie et leur bonne humeur ! A remarkable career spanning more than four decades in underground injection, hydrocarbon storage and CO₂ sequestration. Congratulations to Bill Armstrong for the expertise, commitment and field experience he continues to bring to Geostock Sandia and the Geostock Group.

The Geostock Group team made of Bruno Colcombet, Andreas Brecht, Claudia S., Vincent Barrere, Thibault Renard and Arnaud Réveillère is heading back from the SMRI meeting, energized by the many fruitful discussions shared with clients, researchers, and fellow salt‑storage enthusiasts. We truly appreciated the high‑quality technical exchanges and the opportunity to engage with such a committed and knowledgeable community. We are also proud to have contributed to the conference through presentations on geological logs by Vincent Barrere, on a CAES project by Bruno Colcombet, and through the chairing of the conference program by Arnaud Réveillère.

Getting a Class VI permit is a milestone. Building a well that works is the mission. Our own Sylvain Riba and Jim Cron just published in Carbon Capture Magazine - and they didn't write it from a boardroom. They wrote it from the field. From the Frio Brine Pilot in Texas to DOE Regional Partnerships across the country, to bringing the 3rd operational Class VI facility in the U.S. online at Harvestone in North Dakota - GKS has spent over 20 years learning what it takes to engineer the subsurface for permanent CO₂ storage. Now Sylvain and Jim are sharing that knowledge publicly: what makes Class VI wells the regulatory and engineering backbone of CCS in the United States, what the subsurface actually demands from well design and materials, and what developers and operators need to understand before construction begins. What does two and a half years of live Class VI injection data tell you? Quite a lot. 📈 Geostock Sandia's Allen Klingensmith is on the poster floor at #CCUS2026 TODAY — and his work answers one of the most critical questions in active CO₂ sequestration operations: how do you track what's actually happening underground as injection continues over time? Using Pressure Transient Analysis (PTA) with extended falloff data from a live Class VI CCUS site, Allen's study confirms radial composite behavior, documents rising supercritical CO₂ saturation near the wellbore, and delivers refined reservoir parameters that sharpen model calibration for permitting and long-term monitoring. This isn't theoretical.
