Great news about the #Rathrush Green Energy Park project, as it reaches an important milestone. Geostock is proud to contribute its subsurface expertise to the development of this ambitious #LinedRockCavern #hydrogen storage project, helping to advance large-scale #HydrogenStorage capabilities. 👏 Congratulations to everyone involved! We look forward to supporting the next phases of the project and invite you to learn more by watching the video below.
We are delighted to be launching the public consultation phase of the Rathrush Green Energy Park project today. A handful more long duration energy storage projects of this scale, combined with our abundant renewables, would give Ireland an electricity system that is 100% free of volatile and insecure fossil gas imports. With a development cost of approximately €2billion, the project will use surplus renewable energy generated off-site - which is currently being lost as a result of lack of demand at certain times and inadequate grid capacity to absorb power. This surplus wind and solar energy will be used to generate green hydrogen which will then be stored deep underground on-site in lined rock caverns and later converted to electricity. The Rathrush Green Energy Park will be able to meet 10% of Ireland's peak demand, and store 30x more energy than Turlough Hill. Our priority for the next few months is to work with the local community around Rathrush, Rathoe and Tullow in Co. Carlow to make sure we answer any concerns and queries raised. We have a dedicated community liaison officer and team on the ground, and we've already briefed the Carlow Councillors and knocked on the doors and dropped in a leaflet to everyone near the project. Meet the GKS Team: Daniel Collins, SVP of Geosciences Some people study carbon storage. Dan Collins helped prove it will work. Dan was a principal consultant on the first-in-kind CO2 sequestration Frio Brine pilot demonstration project in the United States, and four decades later he is still reading the subsurface to guide how carbon gets stored safely underground. As SVP of Geosciences at Geostock Sandia, he has spent nearly three decades anchoring our geoscience work across the full Underground Injection Control (UIC) spectrum. His path to carbon storage runs through the heart of the energy industry. Dan started at Exxon as a Senior Geologist, mapping oil and gas plays and learning to read deep geology from well logs and subsurface structure. He moved into Underground Injection Control at DuPont in the late 1980s, directing Class I hazardous and non-hazardous deepwell disposal across 15 sites and authoring the Land Ban exemption petitions, EPA No-Migration Petitions, and state permits that kept them compliant. That arc, from exploration geology to UIC permitting to Class VI carbon storage, is exactly the range a CCUS project needs in one geoscientist. What Dan brings to GKS: 🔹 Four decades beneath the surface, 39+ years reading subsurface geology for carbon storage and effluent injection well projects 🔹 The full UIC spectrum, from Class I deepwell disposal to Class VI CO2 sequestration 🔹 Carbon storage pioneer, principal consultant on the first U.S. CO2 sequestration pilot demonstration, the WESTCARB Arizona Utilities Characterization Well, and SECARB Cranfield Early Test projects 🔹 Trusted on direct-award DOE projects, including Newark Basin Characterization and West Hackberry Life Extension II 🔹 A geologist's geologist, Registered Geologist in four states When a Class VI permit or a complex injection well project comes down to what the rock will actually do, Dan is the geoscientist you want in the room. This is how GKS makes the earth the best place to store all energies. 👇 Drop a comment to say hello to Dan, or tag a member of the GKS team whose work you admire or have worked with in the CCUS, UIC, or carbon storage space. #GeostockSandia #GKS #UndergroundInjectionControl #UIC #ClassI #ClassVI #CO2Sequestration #CarbonStorage #GeologicCarbonStorage #CCUS #CCS #CarbonCapture #InjectionWells #Geosciences #EnergyTransition #DOE

A remarkable career spanning more than four decades in underground injection, hydrocarbon storage and CO₂ sequestration. Congratulations to Bill Armstrong for the expertise, commitment and field experience he continues to bring to Geostock Sandia and the Geostock Group.
Four decades. Hundreds of wells. One engineer who's seen it all. Meet Bill Armstrong, P.E. — Sr. Vice President (SVP) of Engineering & Field Services at Geostock Sandia (GKS), and the next feature in our Meet the GKS Team series. For 40+ years, Bill has been at the wellhead — designing, drilling, installing, and rehabilitating the injection wells, hydrocarbon storage wells, and Class VI CO₂ sequestration wells that quietly keep American industry running and increasingly, decarbonizing. A relationship that speaks for itself: Bill has served as the lead injection well consultant for the Burns Harbor steel mill in Indiana since 1986 — a partnership that has continued seamlessly through five corporate identities: Bethlehem Steel → ISG → Mittal Steel USA → ArcelorMittal → and today, Cleveland-Cliffs Burns Harbor. That's 39 years of trusted Class I injection well consulting, engineering, and field support — the kind of long-term relationship GKS is built on. Since joining Geostock Sandia (GKS) (formally Sandia Technologies, LLC) in 2001, Bill has led: 🔹 From blueprint to wellhead — new well design, installation, workovers, stimulations, and mechanical integrity testing (MIT) across the full project lifecycle and all UIC classes 🔹 CCUS pioneer — stratigraphic test wells for DOE ARRA-funded and ISGS CarbonSAFE projects, plus international effluent disposal (DuPont China / DuPont Mexico) 🔹 Go-to engineer for Fortune-scale operators — Cleveland-Cliffs (formerly ArcelorMittal), Tesoro, Phillips 66, Sasol, Dakota Gasification, and many others 🔹 Hydrocarbon storage cavern shaft engineering and maintenance for Phillips 66 and others 🔹 Client interface, regulatory engagement, and project execution from feasibility through field Before GKS, Bill served as VP / Operations Manager at Texas World Operations and held engineering roles at Cockrell Oil and Phillips Petroleum's R&D group. He's a Licensed Professional Engineer (Texas), with degrees in Chemical Engineering (Louisiana Tech University) and Biology (University of Arkansas at Little Rock) — grounding 25+ years at GKS. Bill's depth is part of why GKS clients trust us with their most technically demanding projects — from Class VI permitting and Area of Review (AoR) analysis to MVA design and field operations on the 3rd operating Class VI well in the United States. 👇 Drop a comment to say hello to Bill, or tag an engineer whose work you admire in the CCUS, UIC, or carbon storage space. #MeetTheTeam #GeostockSandia #GKS #ClassVI #UIC #ClassI #UndergroundInjectionControl #CO2Sequestration #GeologicCarbonStorage #CarbonManagement #CCS #CCUS #InjectionWell #WellDesign #Engineering #CarbonSAFE #MVA #EnergyTransition #ClevelandCliffs #SteelIndustry #PetroleumIndustry #ChemicalIndustry

Getting a Class VI permit is a milestone. Building a well that works is the mission. Our own Sylvain Riba and Jim Cron just published in Carbon Capture Magazine - and they didn't write it from a boardroom. They wrote it from the field. From the Frio Brine Pilot in Texas to DOE Regional Partnerships across the country, to bringing the 3rd operational Class VI facility in the U.S. online at Harvestone in North Dakota - GKS has spent over 20 years learning what it takes to engineer the subsurface for permanent CO₂ storage. Now Sylvain and Jim are sharing that knowledge publicly: what makes Class VI wells the regulatory and engineering backbone of CCS in the United States, what the subsurface actually demands from well design and materials, and what developers and operators need to understand before construction begins. This is the kind of thinking we bring to every project. Read it, share it, and start a conversation with The Geostock Sandia team. What does two and a half years of live Class VI injection data tell you? Quite a lot. 📈 Geostock Sandia's Allen Klingensmith is on the poster floor at #CCUS2026 TODAY — and his work answers one of the most critical questions in active CO₂ sequestration operations: how do you track what's actually happening underground as injection continues over time? Using Pressure Transient Analysis (PTA) with extended falloff data from a live Class VI CCUS site, Allen's study confirms radial composite behavior, documents rising supercritical CO₂ saturation near the wellbore, and delivers refined reservoir parameters that sharpen model calibration for permitting and long-term monitoring. This isn't theoretical. This is operational data from the 3rd Class VI facility in the U.S. — and it's shaping how CCUS projects are managed and permitted going forward. 🕐 Poster Sessions: 10:25–10:55 AM & 3:00–3:35 PM 📍 Town Center North – Poster Area Then come find us at Booth #407 — the full #GKS team is here all week. 📅 March 30 – April 1, 2026 🏨 Waterway Marriott | The Woodlands, TX #CCUS2026 #GeostockSandia #GKS #CCUS #CarbonCapture #CarbonStorage #CO2Sequestration #ClassVI #UIC #UndergroundInjectionControl #PressureTransientAnalysis #ReservoirEngineering #CO2Plume #GeologicCarbonStorage #InjectionWell #CarbonManagement #Geoscience #EnergyTransition #CCS #CCUS2026TheWoodlands
