ELEMENT3-5 expressly welcomes the Announcement and see it as an important foundation for expanding technological sovereignty in the field of power semiconductors and SiC epitaxy based on ELEMENT3-5 Next Level Epitaxy technology. At the same time, it is clear that the funding commitment is just the beginning. The successful implementation of the projects, the establishment of resilient supply chains, and the scaling of industrial processes will be crucial for achieving the ambitious goals of the EU Chips Act in a sustainable way.

ELEMENT 3-5 GmbH hat dies direkt geteilt
Germany selected 38 semiconductor projects across 12 federal states in March as part of the new IPCEI on Advanced Semiconductor Technologies. The federal government is committing over €3 billion, with EU wide matchmaking now underway. What makes IPCEI AST different from previous rounds is the breadth of what it covers. Seven technology priorities have been identified, and they seem to map quite closely to where European companies already have competitive strength. AI chips and accelerators, photonic integrated circuits, and chiplets with advanced packaging represent new ground that earlier IPCEIs did not address. Sensors, power electronics, and secure communications build on areas where Europe's major players are already well established. The confirmed participant list hasn't been published yet, but the technology priorities align with companies already shaping these fields across Europe. Infineon Technologies in power semiconductors and sensors. STMicroelectronics across silicon photonics and its PIC100 platform. NXP Semiconductors in automotive processing and secure connectivity. AT&S in advanced IC substrates and packaging. Bosch semiconductors and sensors in MEMS and sensor systems. Axelera AI in edge inference accelerators. ASML in lithography and advanced production systems. Germany, France and the Netherlands are coordinating the programme, and around a third of the German participants are reported to be startups and SMEs. That seems like a meaningful shift from earlier rounds. The European Commission's state aid assessment is expected to begin this summer, with the aim of completing approval by the end of 2026. Neben inspirierenden Ausstellungen und einem beeindruckenden Pitch-Wettbewerb hat uns besonders gefreut, dass wir von ELEMENT 3-5 Teil der Paneldiskussion zur Frage sein durften, wie kapitalintensive Technologien in Deutschland erfolgreich skaliert werden können. Solche Formate sind wertvolle Plattformen, um Erfahrungen zu teilen, neue Partnerschaften anzustoßen und gemeinsam an der Zukunft der High-Tech-Industrie in NRW zu arbeiten. Am 31. Oktober fand unser zweites Verbundtreffen im Forschungsprojekt Green Epitaxy statt. Gemeinsam mit unseren Partnern von NMWP Management GmbH und dem Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT diskutierten wir die nächsten Schritte für eine nachhaltige, ressourcenschonende Halbleiterproduktion mittels der innovativen „Next Level Epitaxie“-Technologie. Im Fokus stand neben dem aktuellen Fortschritt in den Arbeitspaketen und vielversprechenden Ergebnissen auch die Entwicklung neuer Ansätze zur Technologieverwertung. Das Projekt zeigt jetzt schon, wie offene und produktive Zusammenarbeit in einem interdisziplinären Konsortium den Weg für Zukunftstechnologien ebnet. Vielen Dank an alle Kolleginnen und Kollegen für ihr Engagement und die konstruktive Zusammenarbeit! Unser Projekt Green Epitaxy wird gefördert durch das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie.

ELEMENT 3-5 achieved great successat the NRW Nano conference, which took place from September 30 to October 1,2025, in Dortmund. We were delighted to welcome again Mona Neubaur, Minister of Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia, as our guest at the NRW Nanoconference. During her visit to our booth, the Minister expressed keen interest in both the technology and ELEMENT 3-5 GmbH. As a young company with an ambitious growth plan, we are an interesting partner in the context of the desired structural change in the Rhineland mining region. The Minister also appreciated our "green footprint." Our technology saves 90% of energy and gas compared to conventional compound semiconductor production, and we avoid the use of toxic ammonia gas. The savings at the product level are even greater: components manufactured using compound semiconductors are significantly more energy-efficient than conventional silicon-based solutions. Thanks to the economic advantages of ELEMENT 3-5 technology, it can now also be integrated in the mass production –a significant benefit for our environment. Furthermore, participation in the conference was a complete success. Over the two days, many interesting discussions and contacts took place, enabling the establishment of further business relationships and development cooperation.

Mit einem weltweit patentierten Verfahren auf Basis intelligenter Plasma-Quellen gelingt die Herstellung von Halbleitern bereits bei 200–300 °C – statt wie bisher bei vierstelligen Temperaturen.
