So... I beat Mass Effect 3 last night. And now I have a lot of feels. A lot of them. I'd meant to make feeling posts after every main quest but ... I couldn't handle it.

I tend to get really emotionally invested into things like video games, books, and movies. I cry. A lot. So uhh... Yeah.

ME3 spoilers, full game )

Final Cry Count: ∞
I have a research paper due Friday. I'm comparing the incontestable Meadowcroft data to the various contested Pre-Clovis sites. It will be interesting. I just... have no brain power left in me.

Midterms are sort of over. I have one more test on Tuesday but it'll be easy. The two previous midterms were 16 total pages of writing so my brain is shot. Which is why this research paper is ... having issues being started. But I have an outline! Three pages a day until Friday and it'll be done! I just have to... write them.

The Mass Effect 3 demo is great. I started multiplayer on Friday and have now run with a Human Soldier (surprisingly boring) and a Quarian Engineer (WHICH IS A BLAST) but I haven't tried the other classes yet.

I'm really enjoying Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It's a pretty solid game. It's got a ridiculously huge open world (which I normally dislike) and a decent main story (which is why I can forgive the massive world). And my character is adorable. So that helps.

I've done two of the paradox endings for FFXIII-2 and still need to do the others but first I need to get some grinding done. So that's pretty low on my vidya game priorities.

After this paper is done I'll have a little over a week to get through as much of Reckoning as possible before ME3 launches. I doubt I'll be able to beat the game since the world is SO huge but hopefully I can get through a decent chunk of it. Then it's on to killing Batarians and ruining the Reapers.

Spring break hits the last week of March so I'm hoping to get some cosplay related work done. Mom's agreed that my birthday present can be her footing the bill for most of SDCC so now I just have to deal with cosplay expenses. I may ditch my plan of doing two costumes just so I can have one really well made one. Probably going to shoot for doing Shepard's dress blues (because armor is too time consuming) and scrap 1967 Batgirl (I'm a little sad about this one). I'd like to have something more presentable than the mess that was Miranda. So I'll spend that month between classes ending and Comic Con perfecting whatever I go with instead of the 25 - 30 hours I spent on Miranda.

Other than the pain and suffering of midterms, classes are going well. I've realized that Archaeology is most likely not the path I want to take so the rest of my upper division classes (aside from the few required classes left) will be Physical Anthropology and BioArchaeology. I've also found out that I can graduate in four quarters (including this current one) as long as I take 2-3 Anthro classes every quarter. Let's just hope the rest of my classes require fewer essays.

Going back to spring break, I'm headed back to Sacramento for that week. Mostly to see The Hunger Games with mom. And hopefully I can steal the spare printer because fuck this bullshit of it costing me $0.18 for each page I print. Fuck it hard. I'll probably use that time to also bring back the stuff I wound up not needing and bringing things that would be more useful. I may also bleach my hair and go back to pink or orange. UCSC is full of neon headed kids so I feel left out.

So... I guess I should stop procrastinating on my paper now.

[personal profile] toxin and Greg came and crashed on my floor for the weekend. We went to a poetry slam (where we finally met Jazzy), went to the beach, and ate lots of delicious food. It was pretty awesome. But mostly because I got to see Rachel. ♥

Also the Holloways continue to be amazing and terrible.

My classes are... going. Oceanography continues to be easy. Early African Archaeology continues to be remedial and tedious. North American Archaeology continues to be awesome.

My internship is going great. We finished sorting the current work we had for CA-SCR-35 and are now working on entering in CA-MNT-229 into the database.

I joined the Anthro Society on campus and have started attending the Archaeology/Physical Anthropology lunches.

I'm considering double majoring (or at least minoring) with History. Not because it will make me look better but because I enjoy History and love learning. So once my transcripts are finally here, I'll talk to an adviser about majors/minors and see what I can do.

I am exhausted. And just slightly sunburned. And food comaing. So uh... Yes. That's it.

Basically I'm a crazy person and hate myself.

Updates!

I am that girl in my Anthro classes. You know the one. Today I got called out as the only person to go to H-M's office hours and discuss my paper. She scolded everyone because she only has office hours for a tiny window on one day a week which means next week everyone will get short and very brief meetings with very little discussion or research and "Had you shown up like Victoria did, you'd have gotten an hour to research with me like she did and now she has a great paper lined up."

I really do have a great paper lined up.

We spent an hour discussing sites and stratigraphy and my paper has been narrowed down to a look at Meadowcroft's stratigraphic data and the lithics found within each occupation and compare them to more recent (and more controversial) sites and see if the timelines match up and where there's deviation. So I'm basically looking at Pre-Clovis lithics and their dates and building a theoretical tool industry around the items found at each site. H-M said that if my paper is strong enough it could be published since no one has done a synthesis on all the data acquired from these Pre-Clovis sites. Which is... ridiculous. But I'm not going to try to build this paper around the idea of getting published. Because that's grossly pretentious.

My internship is going nicely. Yesterday I spent three hours cataloging fish vertebrae. It was a lot of zen-like data entry but I can now identify a fish spine, so I guess there's that.

Oceanography is great and really interesting. Early African Archaeology is a lot of review right now (which is kind of driving me crazy because upper division Anthro majors should know this shit but w/e it's easy work for me). North American Archaeology is digging into the various tool industries and sites of early occupation and looking at various methods of peopling (which is kind of review for me but this is way more in-depth and interesting).

I've had to start drinking coffee again. Surprisingly, my ulcer seems to be okay with this. The adjustment to a 17-unit quarter from a 6-unit semester hurts. And the hiking. But I'm getting better with the hiking! I made it from Porter to Ten (roughly a 20 minute hike) without stopping today and my incredibly unfit self was very proud.

So uh... That's what I've been up to. [personal profile] toxin may be visiting me at the end of the month! Which is great! And uh... Yeah. That's about it.

Exciting things!

I HAVE AN INTERNSHIP. I'm working in the Monterey Bay Archaeological Archives doing work on the CA-MNT-229 collection. It's a lot of filing and data entry. ... ONLY WITH BONES. MOTHER FUCKING BONES. Do you know what a sea otter sacrum looks like? Because I do.

It's about six hours a week in the archives but I HAVE AN INTERNSHIP, FUCK YEAH.

Okay, let's talk about classes.

North American Archaeology is kind of a rehash of the last two Anthro classes I took at ARC. Which is nice. But it's also crazy in depth. I have three research papers for the class on top of three essay exams. But Prof HM seems pretty awesome and she did loads of work with Iroquois sites in upstate New York which is pretty damn cool.

Early African Archaeology is ... I don't want to say it's going to be an easy class. But, compared to North America? It's going to be an easy class. Especially since it focuses on most of the core stuff that you learn in Intro to Archaeology. Only with more information. Awww yeah.

Oceanography is, by far, my easiest class. And really interesting. (I've always been an ocean nerd.) It also helps that Professor Griggs is super good looking for a guy that's at least in his sixties.

My legs are killing me but I'm getting better at making my hikes!

I finally got my Moo Cards order so now I have adorable contact cards with photos of me in cosplay. And mom sent me a care package with peanut M&Ms.

The Fault in Our Stars arrived yesterday (technically Tuesday but the mail room is backed up right now) and I've nearly finished. DAMN YOU, JOHN GREEN. STOP BREAKING MY HEART.

I am constantly tired. I actually drank some coffee this morning. It didn't help much. That's how tired I am. I'll sleep this weekend. I hope. Sob.

Today I hiked out to Cowell because 1) I was scouting where all my classes are so I wouldn't be lost tomorrow, and 2) I was informed that the Cowell dining hall is better. After this hike, two things happened: 1) I dropped my Aikido class because I am not hiking for 30 minutes to do an hour of martial arts and then hike back, and 2) The hike the not worth slightly better food.

So my Aikido class is dropped which means my Monday/Wednesday/Friday is only one class at 11am and now I only have to walk half as far to get to my classes. I have the feeling this walking/hiking will be enough exercise for the first quarter. If I'm not losing weight after this, I'll take a PE class.

I'm attempting a Project 365 366 again this year. You can follow it here if you want but it's pretty boring right now.

And now I'm going to kill time for the next half hour then go eat dinner.

This was the view as I walked down to Oakes for breakfast. I can see the ocean. I've lived in river cities, sure. But that really isn't the same as MOTHER FUCKING OCEAN.

Today I officially met Daniel, the right side neighbor. He's a CS major and pretty relaxed. The guys to my left (did I mention I'm surrounded by dudes?) after Andrew and Ryan but only one of them is here and I haven't really been introduced but I think it's Andrew? I met Tebow through a shower curtain because lol co-ed bathrooms. The co-ed part really isn't too bad, it's a small bathroom (one shower, two stalls) and I've shared bathrooms with guys before. It's more the trying to insert a tampon while a guy pees right next to you. That is slightly more awkward.

I met my CA (which is apparently what they call our RAs, I still have no idea what the C stands for) and her name is Courtney. Apparently our corner is 19 dudes and 6 girls. It used to be 4 girls but I and another girl (Tanisha) moved in this quarter. I'm living in the 21+ dorm which means everyone is roughly my age. We're also all transfer students so there's a bit of insta-bond simply because we all are older and went to CCs before coming here.

I still haven't met ... a lot of people. They have names on their doors so I know that much but I have no idea who they actually are.

Tomorrow I'm going to hike up to the upper ring of campus and find where all my classes are. Maybe I'll try one of the other dining halls while I'm at it. Oakes is apparently is worst on campus (but I didn't find it too offensive this morning) so I guess I should try all of them eventually.

I really don't have too much to say other than that. I spent most of today on my replay of Assassin's Creed (nearly done!) so it's been rather unproductive.

QUESTION TO ALL YOU ICONMAKERS OUT THERE

Does the idea of a Video Game 20in20 appeal to you? I'm considering making one and I don't know how well it would go over. The idea being that instead of just one series (Tales, Final Fantasy, Zelda, etc), people could claim any game/character/pairing from any series or standalone game. More variety and gives people with more obscure gaming tastes a way to participate in icontests with games they like.

[Poll #1591298]

Comments, suggestions and fruit-throwing are welcome.

PS: In the event that I do follow through with this, I've made a comm already. [livejournal.com profile] vg20in20 if you're interested. Join it for more updates!
