Thank you for writing for me, and I hope you have a very happy Yuletide!

Some things I like about fics generally speaking:

In general, I like fics that either emulate the style of the source material or that work to subvert that style in an interesting way. I love happy endings, first time stories, stories about friendship, adventure stories, introspective pieces, comedies and angst! I love crossovers, if you're struck by one of those (my Ao3 profile should give you a hint as to the fandoms I know) - as for AUs, in spaaaaace is always a winner for me, as is "they fight crime”! If you want to move a time setting, please note that I have a DNW this year on modern day or mundane settings (any exceptions detailed below).

Treats are gladly welcomed!

For DNWs, please see below.

Eight Days of Luke - Diana Wynne Jones

I love David's loyalty to Luke and their friendship, and Luke's reciprocation of that, as best he can. I enjoy the sense of time and place, with the humans so anchored in their place and time, and the ways in which the Norse pantheon adapt themselves to fit – with more or less success - the expectations of England in the 1970s. But David's and Luke's friendship, whether as pre-teen boys or as grateful deity and adopted human friend is what makes it for me! I really like book-like Humour, historical settings, Hurt/Comfort for this fandom.

Possible prompts:

Luke intervenes to make David's life better. His idea of better, of course.

Or David is brought to the Norse era or whatever is currently between Asgard and Jotenheim, or possibly sees something mythical Luke wishes he hadn't.

Or Luke’s relatives attempt to repay properly David for freeing Luke/finding Mjolnir and Luke ends up needing to clear up after them – which may lead to a recursive spiral of trouble, of course! (I'm not familiar with MCU versions of Asgard/Jotunheim, if that will have any bearing on a crossover or fusion you might wish to write).

NB:Either slash or gen is fine, but if David is the age he is in the book, please keep any slash g-rated, and if David is the age he is in the books, the setting should be the 1970s, if he is aged up, the time should progress appropriately, but he should not be 12 in 2020

The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water - Zen Cho

This is such a fantastic story, and I love Zen Cho's description of it being like fanfic of a wuxia drama. Guet Imm's lack of experience in dealing with the outside world and Tet Sang's forced experience in cat herding from dealing with the bandits go well together. What plans does Guet Imm suggest that the Goddess has in store for them?

Possible Prompts:

Tet Sang and Guet Imm have a further adventure - is there another relic that needs to be retrieved and safeguarded?

Perhaps a story set in their pasts, before the burning of their tokongs.

Tet Sang and Guet Imm find they have travelled further than they expected and come across an unexpected item or sight (if you wanted this to be a crossover/fusion, that would be great!).

Short Stories - Saki

I love the light, malicious fun of Saki’s stories, their sometimes surreal and always pointed satirisation of the time. I especially love the character of Clovis Sangrail and his terrible (for other people) sense of humour.

Possible Prompts:

Anything, dear writer, anything! I just long for a Clovis story - cross him over with another fandom (either Edwardian or not), send him into space, to another time, whatever - just let him be Clovis (appallingly frank, as Saki said, and malevolently amused at others' expense) and, please, let him live.

Fix Bay’nets – George Manville Fenn

Oh, George Manville Fenn, how I love his slashy, slashy mind! I love the class-crossing, workers's rights-approving, anti-imperialist, non-racist, non-syrupy-religious, hand-holding, heroic adventure-having manliness of it all. (And while some of that list might need "for his time" appended, it's clear from the content of his books that GMF did put forward such views). I adore the innuendo, innocent or not, and the real and clear love (of whatever kind) his characters have for each other. I especially love Bracy and Gedge and the way they support each other and play to each other's strengths. (And the way they are very clearly kissing in between the paragraphs).

Possible prompts:

I'd adore a Bracy/Gedge or a Bracy/Roberts or Bracy/Gedge & Roberts story that emulates the tone of the book! If writing Bracy/Gedge, you can omit Roberts if you like.

First times; what happens after the book ends; soldiers surprised by falling for each other's manly charms; crazy Victorian ideas on science and exploration would all be marvellous.

As this was written well over a century ago, it's fine to have period-appropriate attitudes attitudes, but within the book itself both Bracy and Roberts criticise imperialism and Gedge makes any number of pointed remarks about the class system, so don't feel the Victorians were all of one opinion on social issues!

Amarna Period RPF

Ah, the reign of Pharaoh Ahkenaten, a period full of new exciting movements in art and religion, a new capital city in Egypt and the princes of Canaan all furiously writing to Egypt accusing each other of treachery whilst proclaiming themselves the only loyal vassal in the area . . . I love the brazenness of Labaya of Shechem, about whom many of his fellow princes complained, and Abdi-Hebda of Jerusalem, one of the complainers who later gets himself dubbed a "second Labaya" for his own shenanigans. What might Akhenaten or his chief wife Nefertiti be thinking when yet another pile of self-serving letters from Canaan hit the royal in-box? What is Labaya up to, anyway, and can he get away with it if he just writes the right letter? Possible prompts: Epistolary fic - more diplomatic letters between the two named Canaanite princes and Pharaoh, explaining how *they* are the only loyal vassals in Canaan and the other is a treacherous dog? A scene between Akhenaten and Nefertiti concerning politics, their family, the new city of Akhetaten . . . A meeting between Labaya and Abdi-Hebda with good or bad results (and that may get both of them writing furiously to Egypt again).

Late Bronze Age Collapse RPF

It's the Late Bronze Age, the Sea Peoples are on the move, the climate is changing, economies are declining and all around the Mediterranean the cities are falling . . .

Do any of the requested characters see the hand of their gods at work in what is happening around them? Perhaps the events of the Iliad are happening in some form for Walmu of Wilusa and his city and he hopes to bring in Šuppiluliuma's father Tudḫaliya against the Acheans. Or in more mortal politics for the kingdom of Ugarit - at a time when treaties are sealed with royal marriages, is this really a good time to divorce a wife from one's overlord's family?

Possible prompts:

One or more of the Hittite kings' vassals' response to the various calamities afflicting his city during this period.

Šuppiluliuma and the abandoning of Hattusa.

The divorce case of Ammurapi of Ugarit and Princess Eḫli-Nikkal of Hattusa.

DNWs:

graphically described non-consensual sex;

characters explicitly and graphically described as sexually active below the mid-teens - in settings where people might marry very young, please keep mentions of consummation of such marriages inexplicit;

explicitly described, on-page serious harm to children/child-like characters or animals (I.e., mentions or descriptions of hunting and tracking or someone fighting/being hit are all right, very detailed descriptions of slaughtering an animal or hurting a child is not;

identity headcanons;

alpha/beta/omega dynamics;

detailed description of trauma to eyes or teeth (generalised description is fine);

modern day events such as Covid, modern day political events such as Brexit, etc;

terminal illnesses or cancer;

mundane-setting or modern day AUs and settings;
