Challenge No. 32 ~ Summer Reading

August 1, 2010

Welcome back after our long hiatus!    We appreciate you stopping in today and are so glad you didn’t forget about us!!

As promised, we have a “special” challenge today.    We’ve teamed up this week with the amazing Award-Winning Children’s Book Illustrator and Author, Elizabeth O. Dulemba.

Elizabeth is a huge advocate for children’s reading and is very familiar with the children’s book industry;  For all you Copic Masters out there, she  also has published several helpful articles for anyone who might be interested in illustrating or writing children’s books!

So, our challenge this week is READING!  … which includes bookmarks, book gift card holders, reading charts, etc.   Anything you can think of that relates to reading.   The Copic Creations Design Team wanted to take this opportunity to help pass the word that summer reading can be fun AND beneficial to all those “bored” kids out there!   We found this interesting article about the benefits of summer reading for kids.    We have each used one of Elizabeth’s reading images for our samples found below.

The best part, for those not familiar with Elizabeth’s work, is that she publishes a weekly newsletter that includes FREE illustrations for teachers, librarians, booksellers and parents!   All of Elizabeth’s adorable free images can be found here.       So, there’s no excuse NOT to join us this week, since you can download any of these reading images for FREE!!!

Elizabeth has recently started a Facebook Page and would love it if you would also post your creations there for everyone to see.   Here’s the link . . .  Coloring Page Tuesdays.

AND, Elizabeth will be giving one lucky Copic Creations Challenge participant their choice of

One of her amazing Children’s Books!

How cool is that??!!!     (Elizabeth’s entire collection of books can be found HERE.)

To sweeten the deal, we are also including for the lucky winner of this challenge,

FOUR Copic markers of your choice from 7 Kids College Fund!!

Wooo Hooo!!

PLEASE NOTE: You are NOT required to use an image from our sponsor for your Copic Creations project. (Although Elizabeth’s images are free, so there’s NO excuse not to use one!!)     You will have until August 14th, 12:00 p.m. CDT to post your artwork and be eligible for a chance to win this weeks prize; The winner will be announced along with our next challenge post on August 15th.

 ****************************************************************

Now, after such a long delay, we NEED let you know who the lucky winner(S)!! are from our last challenge!!     [I felt so bad about the mixup with the dates from our last challenge that I spoke with the so-very generous Tiffany of Tiffany Doodles and she has decided to DOUBLE her offer!!]     So, we have TWO winners of TEN digital images from Tiffany!    Wow!

Challenge No. 28 ~ Monochrome

May 15, 2010

Welcome!  It’s time for a new Copic Creations challenge.   This week we are featuring MONOCHROME Copic Coloring!   For those who are unfamiliar with this term, here’s the definition from Dictionary.comA monochrome or monochromatic painting is one created using only one color or hue.

We did have a little help from our SUPER talented sponsor for this challenge  . . .  Katie Cotton!    Katie is the creator and owner of the stamp company Paper Makeup Stamps.   I hope you have the time to visit her store, she has some awesome images that are perfect for Copic coloring.   Everyone on the CC Design Team has created some true masterpieces using this technique and images graciously supplied to us by Katie from Paper Makeup Stamps.

In addition to her paper crafting expertise, Katie is a phenomenal professional makeup artist and hair stylist!  You really should take a peek at her  makeup and hair blog – My Makeup Artist Blog.   Talk about one talented lady!

We are fortunate to have Katie joining us today as a Guest Designer, with THREE monochrome colored cards!   She definitely knows her stuff when it comes to monochromatic coloring.   She has also recorded  two extremely helpful  video tutorials on this technique, which we’ve included in the tutorial section below.

Here are links to ALL of Katie’s blogs for your perusal:

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Flower Fairies, I wanted to share with you a short story about them taken from Wikipedia.   BTW, all the stamps used by the DT for this challenge are the product of English illustrator Cicely Mary Barker, you can read more about her here.

What is a Flower Fairy?  Flower Fairies are tiny creatures (the biggest is only 20cm tall) that live in the bottom of gardens, the middle of grassy meadows, and on the edge of distant marshes. Wherever and whenever a seed sprouts, a Flower Fairy baby is born. Each Flower Fairy lives and sleeps in their chosen flower, plant or tree, and as this grows the fairy grows too. Each and every Flower Fairy is in charge of looking after their flower or plant; keeping it strong and healthy by making sure it has plenty of sunshine and water to drink, sweeping away dead leaves, and polishing flowers and stems.
