An industrial gateway is a hardware device designed with the ruggedness needed to withstand industrial environments. Just like other gateway devices, an industrial gateway manages traffic between otherwise isolated networks and subnetworks (subnets).

Let's start by going over how the networks communicate. Each networked device is called an individual ‘node’. Each node must have its own number so that it can be differentiated from other devices. DH uses a system called Floating Master to send out data to the other nodes.

Some of the simplest types of digital communication networks found in industry are defined by the EIA (Electronic Industry Alliance) and TIA (Telecommunications Industry Alliance) groups, under the numerical labels 232, 422, and 485.

Option 2: VPN Server. Set up your own VPN server on-premises at the factory. This requires technical expertise and involves configuring a VPN server appliance or software, such as OpenVPN or IPsec, and setting up secure network connections.
https://control.com/technical-articles/addressing-as-interface-asi/
ASi is a widely used networking technology in industry. Its main purpose is to connect field devices to programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), and industrial PC-based automation systems. Field components are relatively simple I/O devices, such as sensors, actuators, pushbuttons, and encoders.

Industrial computer networking is the ability to allow data to be transferred between all of the devices in the facility with processors. Sometimes, communication ports are built right into the front of the processor modules, while other times is an add-on card or module.
https://control.com/technical-articles/what-is-the-bacnet-protocol/
BACnet is a network protocol used in building automation systems (BAS) to control the data exchange between different devices and components, commonly used to control HVAC and lighting, manage security and access, monitor energy usage, and allow inter-operation with other building management systems.

A good place to find products for industrial ethernet is: "http://ethernet.industrial-networking.com/index.html":http://ethernet.industrial-networking.com/index.html Selecting a switch should be based on your requirements. If you need redundant ring topology then Hirschmann, Modicon Connexium, and Phoenix Contact offer the only solutions that I am aware of.

CC-Link (Classic) is the original version of the protocol, using a shielded twisted-pair cable with the same specifications as for RS-485 networks. It supports a daisy-chain topology and offers communication speeds of up to 10 Mbps.

The wireless module can provide digital I/O at moving tooling such as robot grippers, reducing the need for large multi-conductor cable runs through drag chains while supporting connections for grippers, valves, and sensors. Meanwhile, PROFIsafe support extends the EX600’s safety networking capabilities, allowing safety I/O to communicate over an industrial Ethernet network and helping machine builders reduce wiring and simplify machine integration.

Besides being a machine-to-machine communication protocol for industrial automation, OPC UA is also a perfect candidate to connect the machine and business networks. OPC UA not only transfers machine information such as set-points, measured values, and process parameters, but it also defines and describes the data.

Static IP addressing is a very labor-intensive method. At least with a network connection, you can access the various devices remotely, but you still must apply settings and set each one individually. If you lose count, there may be a conflict.

The nodes include 8 slc plcs, 5 Panelviews & a KA5 bridge card to a DH+ network. We also have a KT card in the pc which allows us onto the DH+ network (consisting of 3 plc5's & a citect pc) which works fine. If we access the DH+ network, then go to the bridge card, then we can access the DH485 network ok (but not via the AIC unit!!).

The Profibus guys will tell you that HART is useless and you shouldn't use it, but there are zillions of HART installations out there doing just fine. Oh, and we haven't even talked about the other networks available, like DeviceNet, ControlNet, AS-i, Interbus-S, Lightbus, SERCOS, CANopen, WorldFIP, Seriplex, Sensoplex, SDS, LonWorks, CC-Link, CompoBus/S, etc.
