Profibus DP (DP from Decentral Peripherics) is a protocol for profibus with remote IO (Cyclical Master-Slave with 1 master and up to 126 slaves), other profibus protocols like FMS are often used for data communication and HMI (Client-Server, ...

I won't try to evaluate possible answers to find the 'best way' -- I'll leave that up you. <smile> One possible way to do this would be to use a DP/DP coupler (6ES7 158-0AD01-0XA0) and map some I/O words from one profibus net to the other.

DP stands for Decentralized Periphery. It is basically refering to a high speed RS485 network of slaves (remote I/O) that Daisy chain back to a central Master PLC. ... You will find a lot of technical info on Profibus on the PTO (Profibus Trade ...

WhatI would recommend is to setup a connection between the two PLC's with MPI. This protocol is basically the same as Profibus DP, and more information can be send and received ...

Has anyone make a profibus dp connection with another opc server? aaaaaaaaaaaaany link or response would be very helpful. thanks by the way to read all the post !!!!!!!! ... Hello franciscom 1) You must set to MPI protocol 2) Yes CP5611 must works with Step7 and Microwin, for Microwin you must set PPI protocol 3) I think not because I think that the cpu doesn't route the programming packets for CPUs but I'm sure that with MPI interface you can program the S7200 cpu via EM277 port.

Although I have never actually verified this myself, I've been told that 1) the MPI protocol is a variation of FDL, and 2) that the S7 functionblocks SEND and RECEIVE use FDL instead of the other available Profibus protocols (FMS, DP) for the simple reason that the functionality needed for these two functionblocks is not available in FMS or DP.

FMS is an application protocol. FMS specifies a format for the data that is sent using FDL. FDL alone is not sufficient. If there were Siemens controllers that supported FDL and did not support DP (Siemens had another name for it was at some point I think) or FMS, then you can rest assured that there was some kind of protocol, perhaps unspecified, in use that organized the data that was sent over FDL.

Is it? Would be nice if LAN's could also carry synchronous data (phones, video, and perhaps DP) round the network.

The "PROFIBUS Standard - DP specification" provides the specification of the DP, DP-V1 and DP-V2 protocols. This spec is part of the international standard IEC 61158.

You'd need the CPU module and the DP master: 6ES7138-4HA00-0AB0 (DP Master interface) 6ES7151-7AA20-0AB0 (also known as IM 151-7) You might actually need the slightly more expensive processor: 6ES7138-4HA00-0AB0 (also known as IM 151-7 F) The docs are a little unclear.

You need to select D or P protocol. I think you can get D protocol from pelco. For P protocol, pelco may not give to you, but you still can find it from other resource.

This was a bit too simplified, Classic DP is a cyclic protocol where all information has to be coded into the cyclic transfer, which can be as fast as once every mS. Some clever guys found that this was a waste of bandwith for configuration and status telegram etc.

The PA standard competes closely with Foundation Fieldbus in projects requiring intrinsically safe devices. DP is far and away the most common Profibus flavor, and is suitable for hooking up just about anything under then sun. Discrete I/O, analog devices, drives, everything.

And of course the de facto Ethernet standardisation is running away from AB into Modbus on TCP/IP (to the evident glee of Modicon, who, having nailed their colours firmly and stubbornly onto one of the fieldbus non-starters, i.e. Modbus Plus, now find themselves owning the most likely contender to dominate on Ethernet!). Personally, I wouldn't look further than Profibus DP to link PLC's to drives and remote I/O - you can do this easily with the excellent SST module for AB PLCs - with HMI on Ethernet.

In my personal opinion, PROFIBUS has one good thing going for it: EDDL (www.eddl.org) IEC 61804-3 electronic device description language is an integral part of the protocol. By loading the EDDL file into a configuration software using EDDL, that software can configure variable speed drives, electric actuators, and other kinds of devices using PROFIBUS-DP.

Regardless of make or model, every differential pressure (“DP”, “d/p”, or \(\Delta\)P) transmitter has two pressure ports to sense different process fluid pressures. These ports typically have \(1 \over 4\) inch female NPT threads for convenient connection to the process.

Flow meters (ultrasonic, vortex, mag, and DP etc.) also use Foundation fieldbus. Most limit switches are eliminated since the fieldbus valve positioners already contain continuous position feedback and end-point alarm could be set if need be. Pressure, temperature, level, and flow switches are falling out of fashion because they have no diagnostics.
