As an applied microeconomic theorist, I study human behavior under uncertainty. In particular, I am interested in uncertainty that cannot be quantified exactly. In addition, I explore useful aspects of uncertainty and contractual arrangements mitigating the effects of uncertainty. As a researcher, I find these questions fascinating. I have studied communication of subjective information, strategic uncertainty, and uncertainty in contract enforcement. I use techniques drawn from game theory, mechanism design, decision theory, psychology, and probability theory. I work as a professor of economics at LMU Munich. I am also a member of the CRC TRR 190 and a CESifo Fellow.
Applications of my work include deterrence of insurance fraud and tax evasion, choices of unhealthy behavior, political competition, research contests and competition law.
