How to Set Up Slack OAuth 2.0 with Composio

2 min read

Composio connects AI agents to Slack, helping teams turn conversations into action. With Composio, developers can build agents that read permitted context, respond to mentions, send and manage messages, work with channels and files, and react to Slack events as part of automated workflows.

Access is always limited to the permissions approved during installation, so teams stay in full control of what each agent can see and do.

This guide walks you through two ways to set up authentication for Slack in Composio: Composio Managed Auth (the quickest option) and a custom auth config using your own Slack app. Let’s begin.

  • Composio Managed Auth — the fastest way to get started. Composio provides the Slack app, so there’s nothing to configure.

  • Custom Auth Config — best when you need your own branding, specific scopes, or full control over the Slack app.

With managed auth, Composio provides the Slack OAuth app for you, so there’s no need to create your own app or handle credentials.

1. Go to the Slack toolkit page in the Composio Dashboard and click Add to Project.

2. Give your auth config a name and click Next.

3. Under Credentials, select Composio Managed, review the scopes, and click Create Auth Config.

4. Open the new auth config and click Connect Account to link your Slack account.

5. On the Slack page, select your workspace and click Allow.

6. Your connected account now appears under Accounts with an Active status.

That’s it, your Slack account is now connected through Composio Managed Auth.

Option 2: Custom Auth Config (Your Own Slack App)

Need your own branding, specific scopes, or full control over the Slack app? Follow our step-by-step guide to create OAuth credentials for Slack and configure them in Composio.

All Slack API calls are made via:

That’s it! Your Slack + Composio OAuth integration is ready.

You can now copy the Auth Config ID (ac_...) and use it inside your code or secret manager.

Revoking Access

You can disconnect Slack at any time:

  • In Composio: open the auth config under Auth Configs and delete the connected account, or disable the auth config.

  • In Slack: a workspace admin can remove the app from Settings & administration → Manage apps, which immediately revokes its tokens.
