Addition of airlines to aircraft pictures

[edit]

I have noticed that you add the "airline" to individual aircraft pictures. All pictures I have checked have also the registration category added (e.g. 9R-XXX (aircraft)) and in the registration category the airline is already added according to common practice and guidelines on Wikimedia Commons. Adding the airline again to each individual picture is therefore a double-entry and should be removed. Cheers, Simisa (talk) 05:49, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removing watermarks

[edit]

{{helpme}} Hello there. Can anyone please remove the watermarks from some of the images included in this category? I just don't know how to do it.--Jetstreamer (talk) 21:54, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Jetstreamer, just tag such files with {{Watermarked}} if it is not an urgent case (like here). In urgent cases request help at Commons:Graphic_Lab/Photography_workshop. If have tagged all images which still had watermarks now (except File:Aeroflot Cargo McDonnell Douglas MD-11 cockpit.jpg - this is probably impossible to remove). Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 18:52, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was ready to carry out your suggestion but you already did it. Thanks! --Jetstreamer (talk) 00:34, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've noticed you've uploaded images from various websites. I'd be interested in doing the same however there are a few things of which I am not sure, for instance where on here [2] is the licensing information necessary to upload. Mtaylor848 (talk) 14:10, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

removal template watermark

[edit]

Regarding the picture: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Uzbekistan_Airways_A310_UK31002_TAS_April_2011.png, I am clearly in the wrong. I hadn't seen the watermark at the top of the picture on several occasions. Thinking that someone had made a mistake, I removed the watermark template. That I did this on several occasions is caused by the fact that this is what I mostly do on Wikimedia: removing watermarks. Several a day. I scan the pages for pictures having watermarks. And remove them. I didn't know that I did this to the same picture again and again. Had I known I wouldn't have done it. So, I apologize for the inconvenience and will remove the watermark at a later time. Citypeek (talk) 10:25, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the watermark in the picture and the template watermark on the page. Citypeek (talk) 06:04, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 01:56, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

[edit]
2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

WikiProject Aviation now on Twitter

[edit]

Hi, as mentioned here, Commons:WikiProject Aviation is now on Twitter. I will be using the feed to tweet photos from our now extensive repository of aviation imagery, and will also use it for outreach activities. If you have any suggestions on how to get the maximum use out of Twitter feel free to leave suggestions on the Aviation project talk page. You can follow the account at http://www.twitter.com/commonsaviation. Cheers, russavia (talk) 14:09, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please upload photos in JPG not PNG!

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your valued uploads of aircraft photos!
It would however be much better if you uploaded the original JPG files instead of converting them to PNG. The quality doesn't get better when converting from JPG but the file size is tremendously raised, leading to an unnecessarily high transfer volume and an inacceptable loading time especially on slow internet connections.
Also please upload the image with (!) the watermark before removing it using a lossless JPG cropping tool such as JPEGTRAN. Then upload the cropped JPG as an update. If you don't know or don't want to use that tool, just add the {{Watermarked}} tag and leave the task for others.
I'm going to check whether a bot can automatically reupload the already uploaded photos to replace your PNG copies. Otherwise we'd have to do that manually. Thanks and best regards, --PanchoS (talk) 10:56, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jetstreamer, I too echo this request. PNG isn't made for photographs, and what PanchoS says is pretty much correct. Just upload photos in JPG format. Cheers, russavia (talk) 16:57, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

About the Turkish Airlines destinations article

[edit]

I've sent you 2 messages (in Spanish), then I noticed you wouldn't be able to reply me back, since I have not enabled my e-mail here in Wikipedia. As I told you, I have, for now, been blocked from editing on English Wikipedia (since I had some disagreements about some articles and I didn't deal with them in the most correct way), but I'm editing on Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French Wikipedias. And I have a user page on Spanish Wikipedia (also in French, Portuguese and Italian, but they're very simple). As I was telling, I've got a map here about Turkish Airlines destinations that already has the Philippines in dark blue, so I was asking your opinion about if I should already update the map (with the corresponding subtitle of "2014/2015", instead of "2014", or if I should wait until 1 January to change the map. For now, I'll keep it like it is now, but I'll take into account your opinion about that. About the article itself, it mentions Siberia in Europe. Well, Novosibirsk is thousands of miles away from Europe, and considering that both Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg (this one being much closer to Europe) belong to the same country, the continental criteria that is used concerning to one shall (in my opinion) also be considered to the other. I can't change now the article in English Wikipedia, but maybe you might take that into account in your edits. Thanks so much for your attention. Greetings from Portugal! About the Turkish Airlines destinations map

[edit]

Do you think that colouring one country in violet if all destinations in that country are suspended is correct or do you think that dots over the suspended destinations in Syria and Libya are a better option? I'd be glad to listen to your opinion about this. Thanks for your attention.Mondolkiri1 (talk) 01:54, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Gostomel Airport has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
