Summary

[edit]
Description
English: (a) To tip over an object requires lifting the center of gravity the distance h_1. This lifting requires work. Object (b) has the same mass, but a lower center of gravity, resulting in a greater lifting distance h_2. Thus by lowering the center of gravity, stability is increased. Object (c) has also the same mass but has a larger base of support, also resulting in a greater lifting distance h_3. Thus by increasing the base of support, stability is increased.
