Category:Declaration House
Declaration House or the Graff House was the Philadelphia boarding house in which Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Built in 1775 by bricklayer Joseph Graff, Jr., it was located at the southwest corner of 7th and Market Streets. The building was converted into stores and altered in the 19th century, before being demolished circa 1880. The Penn National Bank, designed by architect Frank Furness, was built on the site in 1882. The bank was demolished circa 1974, and a replica of the Graff House reconstructed in 1975, as part of Independence National Historical Park.
