Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Images from Northern Ghana!
File:Mosquito at Yankazia.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

- Hey, I love your images and am categorizing them by location! Many of the descriptions already point me towards certain places, like Tibung, Tamale, Kumbungu, Saboba, Funsi, etc.
However, many images are just tagged as "...in a village of Northern Region", which is a huge area! Could you please check the images of Category:Northern Region (Ghana) and see if you remember which place that was? I just created a few more categories for some towns/villages and invite you to create more under here. --Enyavar (talk) 15:27, 7 April 2022 (UTC)- Hi @Enyavar Thank you for the alert. Please kindly help create categories for the 16 districts in Northern Region which can be see from the following results from the link Dnshitobu (talk) 16:35, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Enyavar Again, please if there is a tool for mass creation of categories, kindly create for all the Communities in the queries. I have really wanted to create them but I don't know how, so I will appreciate it if you could help Dnshitobu (talk) 16:38, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- One can mass-create categories of course, but there are patrollers who delete empty categories, so it seems best to only create them when you need them - once I find a dozen images of the same village, I search for a category for them, and when I don't find any I create it. I often do so by putting my wanted category in the image (red link), then create it with a few parent categories I copy from similar subjects, and then add the category to all images that need to be in there. Many categories follow different structures, so for new district-categories I'd just go with this example but for a new village-category I'd go with a very basic example like this one. I rely on others who later provide coordinates and description texts like here. Whatever you decide, keep doing the good work :-) --Enyavar (talk) 11:15, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi, you also uploaded several maps. The ones that are screenshots from the proprietary GoogleMaps service are certain copyright violations (Google owns the aerial/satellite images, so it's not under a free license). So I filed for the deletion of these three maps. I think that the ones that come from the Ghanaian GIS service are okay and have nothing to do with Google, and I created some more categories for the districts, and for Maps of the Northern Region. --Enyavar (talk) 13:15, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.

This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:KNUST hub Library Wikibase Training 11.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Spell4Wiki Dagbani pronunciation files duplicates
Hi Dnshitobu, Remember 6 months ago? We discussed about Spell4Wiki dag language files ISO code issues and successfully moved many files with the help of Robertsky. As per File moving request discussion in Robertsky's talk page, Next we need to do If different users have created duplicate files need to rename like: Ta-xxx.ogg
→ Dag-xxx (2).ogg
and If the same user has created duplicate files need to delete one of them. Sorry for the very long delay, I made a two table list for this: User:Sriveenkat/Spell4Wiki.
I am planning make a Renaming request on his page for different users have created duplicate files. Share your thoughts. Thank you Sriveenkat (talk) 09:48, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Sriveenkat Mostly we have the same words in Dagbani with the same spelling but different sounds or accents. Please give me sometime to crosscheck the various sounds and could advised better. Thank you for your patience Dnshitobu (talk) 17:29, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
