Reading
Sight-Reading Notes
Identify notes on treble, bass, alto and grand staff. Timed rounds build speed, plus Marathon and Survival runs for the brave.
Key Signatures
Identify key signatures for major and minor scales on bass and treble clef. Know your sharps and flats on sight.
Note Finder
Find any named pitch on your keyboard or fretboard against the clock. Instrument fluency, not just theory.
Rhythm and singing
Rhythm Training

Rhythm Echo
Hear a rhythm and tap it straight back. No notation, pure internal pulse.
Sing & Match the Pitch
Sing or play a note into the microphone. A live cents meter scores how precisely you hold it — real vocal pitch training, on both iOS and Android.
Ear training
Ear Training & Intervals
Recognize intervals, chords and notes by sound alone — the skill every other one rests on.
Perfect Pitch
Name a single note with no reference tone. Levels widen the note set and octave range as your absolute pitch sharpens.
Melodic Dictation
Hear a short melody in an established key and tap it back in order. The classic conservatory exercise, timed and scored.
Solfège & Scale Degrees
Hear a diatonic note in a key and name its scale degree. Movable-do, so it transfers to any key.
Chords, scales and theory
Chord Recognition
Two Chords, Major or Minor, and Chord Qualities — from fast triad calls up to m7b5, sus4 and extensions.
Chord Progressions & Cadences
Hear a progression and pick its Roman numerals. Name the cadence: authentic, plagal, half or deceptive.
Circle of Fifths & Theory
Answer on an interactive circle-of-fifths wheel, build named chords note by note, and transpose on the clock.
Guess the Scale
Recognize major, natural and melodic minor, pentatonic, blues and modal scales — on the staff or by ear.

Just perfect. This is learning in a fun way. Still exploring the app as there's lots of different areas but very intuitive. Ear training, learning intervals, reading bass clef, treble clef or both at once. Don't bother looking anywhere else, this app will keep you happy. My kids, 11 & 13 year old just see it as a fun game so it's not just for the oldies like me!
Overall, this app is fantastic!!! I recommend it to anyone learning different notes and chords!!!

This app is helping me read better and is a fun way to practice theory.
This app is really helping me to read notes and recognize key signatures more quickly. It makes it like a game and I noticed that after I'd been using this app for a couple of weeks but not practicing piano, I was able to read sheet music and play more easily and quickly than before.
Learned the notes in just one day. Huge thanks to the developers!!!

I've been playing the piano for 25 years and I'm still not a fast reader. This app is really beneficial. I also teach and I'm sharing it with my students. We have a marathon together. Wonderful app Thank you

Great app...every potential piano player needs this app in their lives
The support offered for the app is great. Worth the money.
Very helpful learning tool. I'm teaching myself and this app makes it easy.
App was great, new update caused issues and developers listened to feedback and fixed it. Good support, great app again.
Awesome app! I learned bass clef super fast, I love all of the games, especially the scale note reading ones. Super effective. I haven't been using it long but I haven't found any major problems yet. Nonetheless, the games are super effective and fun. Would definitely recommend.
Bought many apps in the past and this one is by far the most complete and fun I’ve tried so far. The support is also first class. Fast and responsive (thanks Sergey). The price is a bargain (compared to other apps doing only half this one can) Keep it up Team ...
Very helpful in quickly reading chords. I've had trouble finding a game I can practice this.
This app is exactly what I was looking for!! I recently starting going to private piano lessons every week but seemed to not be very good at reading the notes straight away, so I searched for an app so I can practice before my next lesson and this is perfect. You can take quizzes for treble and bass cleft notes and chords etc, keep track of your high-score, how many you got correct and it has a leaderboard showing people with the highest scores. You can also take listening tests: My piano teacher would listen to me playing a song without looking at the keys I was playing and could even point out the notes I played wrong USING JUST HER EARS and that amazes me, so with this app maybe I could do that too.
Did you ever ask yourself how to learn notes best? This is a great way to do it. this app got multiple games in it that revolve around chords and notes. With the „guess notes“ game i managed to learn fast and easy, because it‘s simple and fun- and you can do it anytime you got some spare minutes. Also the devs are really good with helping out if you got any trouble. 5/5!
Nice app. Responsive team, fixed my bug in less than a week.

This is very helpful to a returning musician after a stroke!
Great way to practice and learn. Most helpful app I've found.
Very useful: I'm not very good at bass cleff sight reading, and this help a lot; I'm also not good at key identification.
This is one of the best music apps you can get and it also trains you on how to sight-read and play by ear. This app is truly wonderful
This app helps me to practice my notes. It's more challenging than the music flash cards I have.
I'm able to reconize more notes at a glance very helpful, it's my go to app that has helped me so much. Thank you👍
As someone who is a novice in music theory, I found that this is the best app of its type. Subscription is optional, and very affordable. Thank you for making this great option of an app
Helps me with my sight reading.. Very important to me right now!!! Very useful!!
Great for my ear training practice and learning solfege.
One of the most convenient apps for practicing notes (I haven't tried the other features yet, but the start is encouraging)

Better than some of the paid software for learning different clef. Simple and effective.
It is really helpful if you want to develop good sight reading.
I've been using this app every day and am seeing a drastic improvement to my sight reading skills. This app is an excellent supplement to your daily practice routine. I especially enjoy competing with others for the most correct notes in a row. Keep up the good work!

Great app for practicing when away from a keyboard. It's easy and convenient and offers a variety of knowledge tests and games. Definitely worth downloading!

Frequently asked questions
What is ChordIQ?
ChordIQ is a music training game that teaches sight-reading, ear training, rhythm, singing and music theory through fast-paced interactive challenges. It includes more than 30 game modes covering staff reading, chords, scales, theory, ear training, singing and rhythm. You read notes on treble, bass and alto clef, identify key signatures, tap notated rhythms in time, sing into the microphone to match a pitch, train perfect pitch, take melodic dictation, and recognize chord progressions and cadences. The app supports piano, guitar, ukulele, and bass, and works with external MIDI keyboards for a hands-on experience. ChordIQ is available on iOS and Android. Whether you are a beginner learning to read notes on the staff for the first time or an intermediate musician sharpening your theory and ear, ChordIQ turns practice into a game you actually want to play. Track your scores on the global World Chart leaderboard and see how you rank against other musicians.
What game modes does ChordIQ have?
ChordIQ includes more than 30 game modes, grouped by skill area. Staff reading: Guess Note on treble, bass, alto and grand staff, plus Marathon and Survival runs, Note Values, Rests and Key Signatures. Rhythm: read a notated rhythm and tap it in time at ten complexity levels, or hear a rhythm and echo it back, with a one-time latency calibration so your device audio delay is not scored as an error. Singing: sing or play a notated note into the microphone, or hold a pitch in Match the Pitch while a live cents meter scores your precision. Ear training: Guess Note by ear, Intervals, Chords by ear, Perfect Pitch with no reference note, Chord Qualities, Solfege scale degrees and Melodic Dictation, where you tap back a melody you just heard. Chords: Two Chords, Major or Minor, Major and Minor Chords played on the instrument, Guess Chord, Play Chord and Inversions. Scales: Guess Scale and Play Scale across major, natural and melodic minor, pentatonic, blues and modes. Theory: Circle of Fifths, Chord Progressions in Roman numerals, Cadences, Build the Chord and Transposition. Plus Note Finder, a timed drill for locating any pitch on your keyboard or fretboard. Each mode has its own scoring and World Chart ranking.
Is ChordIQ free?
ChordIQ is free to download and play on iOS and Android, and the great majority of its 30+ game modes are free, with ads between rounds. ChordIQ Pro removes those ads and also unlocks the custom practice modes, where you pick your own note, interval, chord, scale and rhythm sets, along with saved user libraries, the Inversions trainer and the daily-plan reroll. It is sold as a yearly subscription, a weekly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase; where the store offers one, the yearly plan starts with a 3-day free trial. Subscriptions auto-renew through the Apple App Store or Google Play and can be cancelled at any time from your device settings.
Does ChordIQ support MIDI keyboards?
Yes. ChordIQ supports external MIDI keyboards on both iOS and Android, allowing you to play chords and notes directly on a physical keyboard instead of the on-screen interface. On iOS, connect via the Lightning or USB-C Camera Connection Kit or use a Bluetooth MIDI controller. On Android, connect via USB OTG. Once connected, ChordIQ detects your MIDI keyboard automatically and routes input to the active game mode. This is especially useful in the Play Major Chords and Play Minor Chords modes, where tapping on a real keyboard feels more natural and helps build muscle memory. MIDI support works with any class-compliant MIDI controller — no additional drivers or setup required. If you already own a MIDI keyboard, ChordIQ gives you a practical reason to use it for structured practice.
Can I try ChordIQ without installing it?
Yes. The free music games at songtive.com/en/games run in any browser and need no account. Each one is a short scored round of the same training the app runs — note reading on the staff, chord recognition, ear training. They are a fair sample of the app, not a demo with the good parts removed. ChordIQ itself is free to download on iOS and Android and adds more than thirty game modes, MIDI keyboard input and the World Chart leaderboard.
What instruments does ChordIQ support?
ChordIQ supports four instruments: piano and keyboard including external MIDI controllers, guitar, ukulele, and bass. In the Play Chords game modes, you tap notes on an on-screen keyboard or guitar fretboard matched to your chosen instrument. Sight-reading, key signature, and ear training modes work across all instruments since they focus on universal music theory concepts like note identification, interval recognition, and scale knowledge. If you connect a MIDI keyboard, ChordIQ uses it for the piano and keyboard modes. Guitar and ukulele players benefit from the fretboard interface that shows chord shapes in standard tuning. The app is designed so that the theory skills you build — reading notes, recognizing chords by ear, identifying scales — transfer directly to whichever instrument you play in real life.
