seriously.......

seriously sometimes you wonder why........ In the first few hours I ran out of bobbin 1/4 of the way down a long seam..... Sewed the border on the wrong side - in reverse stitching that I started reversing the wrong seam also..... Ran out of bobbin again.......Put a nick in the quilt cutting a thread....... OMG there way more...... The sewing gods were not on my side.....
Finally I got the white border and outer border on this quilt .... The centre is Fairy Girls project from a few years ago at Scrub Stitchin'............. Thanks to the chat on zoom that got me to finding the range and Susan @ Susan's Sewing Space for finding the border fabric........
Found a great backing at Quilt Craft.......
Onto the churn dash blocks then......
They were partly in progress.....
I'm a slow sewer but here's progress last night
Delicious lunch out....... Gorgeous gift shop....... Isn't this Christmas tree so pretty......
Seems I'm not the only one who buys alcohol by name or picture...... No I didn't have to search for the chooks they were the first bottle I saw in the fridge..... No idea what it is but I had to have it...... Maybe rosee.......
My friend Miss Jules' project......a crazy quilt she started at Scrub Stitchin' this year.......
A little prezzy from Sandi @ My Forevermoore......
Churn dash show and tell..... More on that later........
Coffees hot so I best get moving and go sewing.......

So Delicious plus jelly beans equals wedding quilt...........

Started off  just over 2 weeks ago to make a wedding present..........
A layer cake + jelly roll + So Delicious pattern by The Quilters Coup + some yardage for borders..........
All purchased at The Quilters Coup
Fabrics are Jelly Bean by Laundry Basket Quilts for Moda
trying to keep bits of the fabrics as a record of what I used...........
I changed mine from the pattern by adding another row
left over I had 2 layer cake sqaures and just over 3 jelly roll strips........
fantastic use of a layer cake and jelly roll..........and it was a good size but I love big quilts so added the big floral border.............
I squared off all the blocks before adding more to them........................
piecing blocks.........
some of the quilting you can see better on the back.........
I hadn't thought ahead well to organise quilting so thanks for the quick service..........
Much appreciated...........
the quickest quilt from start to finish probably ever.......
ta da........my quilt holders were struggling to hold this one up............
96 x 96 in
I was trying to think of a name or something to write and this pattern was suited to a wedding.........
2 halves become one in the centre of the block.....2 lives becoming one joining in marriage...
thanks for your comments on the binding.............it is interesting to see how fast I bind..........more to know how long it takes fitting it in then a race...............but I was worried about getting it finished in time................

French star?............

I saw this pattern - Moda Love Quilt online - printed it and put it in a safe spot for a rainy day............well I haven't had a rainy day but I thought it might be a good one to try.............supposed to be made from a Layer Cake, Charm pack or Mini charm........plus some yardage.....
trying to sort out the mini charm fabrics to replicate the big one............
Started making this one yesterday lunch...............
I have incorporated a few more French General fabrics as I had used some of the fabrics in the layer cake in another project..........................
I wasn't happy with the layout of the side squares so I moved them and changed them..............
Less then a hour this morning and it is all pinned on the wall........moved to final positions and ready for me to start sewing once I get back from town.............
I can't wait.............OMG 2 quilt tops in one week now that would be a record........
I can't show you the other one yet.......you will have to wait a week or so..............

enjoying the weather..........

The weather for the last week has been beautiful.........well if it can't rain at least it has cooled down..............the last week has been a max of 27deg C...........have to go back to October last year for weather like this..........so much nicer then the 30+ temps......need more rain though......nights between 10-14degC.......
&&&&
The final post about Girls Day in the Country......already booked in for 2014 with Lynette Anderson.........if you are thinking of going it's pretty much booked out you need to contact Kerry ASAP to get on the waiting list..........the 2 main shopping items...........
Some Riley Blake goodness............
The thing to remember with Riley Blake is the layer cakes/charm packs don't have 42 pieces like the Moda ones do..........you need to check what you are choosing.....most have 18 or 24 I think.........
The Sweetest Thing by Zoe Pearn.............

Then I got a pair of scissors that are designed for snipping shaggy quilts.......Mr Chooky has snipped the last couple and I have another one coming up so he can snip that one too.........with HIS NEW SCIZZORS........
Birch Rag Quilt Scissors
And a random picture of my canisters in the chookshed.............don't think I have shown you.......
Still stuff to catch up emails/blogs etc......i'm in a bit of a switched off mode......things are/have been busy......
And struggling with the end of daylight savings..........I am so sick of fighting with kids to get them out of bed of a morning in the dark.............and struggling to get out myself...........
Oh next week is going to be SOOOOO nice..........6pm sunset......heaven...........
I love autumn......especially when it feels like it...........
Catch you later..............

sharing skills......

On the weekend I got to share some sewing skills with my friend staying..........she had plans to do some sewing so she could learn how to do things better......like how to get your points to join better and using a 1/4" foot........she is a very new beginner to patchwork and quilting and been teaching herself.....
She has learnt heaps this weekend.
I was working on this twister quilt............I had most of the blocks together so finished the top off and then started to cut it up............she was watching this progress as she worked on another little project...........
Thanks to Janice I have my own 10" Twister ruler now and I love it.............
the colours in the right pic are more true colour.............

As the quilt progressed it was so addictive..........you just wanted to see more come together......

cutting the blocks....................
the scraps at the end..........the squares are about 4.5".........
So as mine was coming together my friend had plans to make a different quilt but with a little encouragement (that she could do this while with me) she was so excited when she got the quilt top together just before they left on Monday morning........and her joins were so good............a massive boost to her confidence..........
Her quilt is more hot pinks and brighter yellow and the green has butterflies on it and the same pinks and yellow as the other blocks.........She just had yardage so we had to cut the blocks before she started.........
it looks great in the brights too........

I just want to make another one NOW..............

Oh and the bad news I don't think I have yardage for the Wild Rose quilt in the previous post.......it was WildFlower I have fabric of.............bugger..............i'll have to check if there is anything else I can use in the stash..............I would like to have a go at quilting this one myself and then try the twister quilt..........
Catch you later..............
