An introduction
What Is the I Ching?
The I Ching (易经), or Book of Changes, is an ancient Chinese work for reflecting on change, timing, and conduct. Its system is organized into 64 hexagrams. Each hexagram is a figure of six yin or yang lines, read from the bottom upward, that describes a recognizable pattern within a changing situation.
An I Ching reading is most useful as a way to examine where you are, what pressures are active, and how you might respond. It does not fix the future or replace your judgment. Instead, its images and line changes offer another perspective on the choices, relationships, and responsibilities already present.
An I Ching online experience makes the casting process accessible without requiring physical coins. Here, six virtual three-coin tosses form the lines of a primary hexagram. Old yin and old yang become changing lines and create a relating hexagram. The result is then interpreted in the context of the real question you brought to the reading.
This online I Ching reading preserves a crucial boundary: casting happens first and interpretation happens afterward. You can begin with a free I Ching reading, then use the result as an invitation to observe rather than as an order about what must happen.
