Five years after ISO's London Declaration, climate action is increasingly becoming part of how standards are developed – not only the subject of individual climate standards. In a new article for the World Economic Forum, ISO’s Head of Sustainability and Partnerships, Noelia Garcia Nebra reflects on how climate considerations are being embedded across the International Standards system, and why collaboration is essential to ensuring standards continue to respond to a changing climate. One of the most important lessons of the past five years is that climate action cannot sit at the edges of existing systems – it must become part of how those systems function. As we look ahead, the next chapter of our Climate Commitment will be about turning that ambition into action. You probably relied on standards before you even left home this morning. 🔌 You charged your phone – standards help devices and electrical technologies work safely and reliably. 🚰 You turned on the tap – standards provide methods to measure and monitor water quality. 🌐 You saw a country code – ISO codes help identify countries consistently around the world. 🔐 You shared data online – standards provide frameworks for cybersecurity and information security. When standards work, we barely notice them, yet they quietly shape how we live, connect and innovate. So, what does that have to do with young people? A lot. 💡 This #InternationalYouthDay, students from around the world are gathering in the Republic of Korea for the 21st International Standards Olympiad, organized by ISO's member in Korea, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards together with the Korean Standards Association. Joining them as an international judge, ISO young professional Nicole Vargas Rivera reflects on how International Standards help turn good ideas into something people can trust, use and build on. 🔗 Read the full reflection: https://lnkd.in/ecH5Vv-k Curious about how standards are shaping AI, cybersecurity, climate resilience and other areas defining our future? 💬 Join the ISO Annual Meeting 2026 online to hear more and add your perspective to the conversation. → Explore the programme: https://lnkd.in/dUj6YF-i #InternationalYouthDay #Standards #Youth #Innovation #ISOAnnualMeeting

An important milestone in more harmonized greenhouse gas accounting has been announced alongside our partners at Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol). 🌍 Building on the ISO–GHG Protocol partnership, we are aligning our corporate standards development programmes around a shared goal: a single, co-branded corporate greenhouse gas accounting standard. By bringing together the complementary strengths of ISO and GHG Protocol through an open, consensus-based process, the new standard will provide organizations, governments and other stakeholders with a trusted foundation for greenhouse gas accounting that supports credible climate action worldwide. 👉 Read the full announcement on the GHG Protocol website: https://lnkd.in/e9G4im2M #ISOGHGPPartnership #CarbonAccounting #ClimateAction #InternationalStandards #Sustainability
