BW ESS has acquired the 250MW / 1,000MWh Yanco Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from ACEnergy, marking another important step in the growth of our Australian portfolio. Located in New South Wales, Yanco BESS will support the National Electricity Market with firming capacity, energy arbitrage and system security services. As long-term owner and operator, BW ESS will now take the project through construction and into operations, with commercial operation planned for 2028. It was great to attend the clean energy summit for the first time in a while, and it did not disappoint! 2 days, 8 pre-scheduled meetings, 5 impromptu meetings, 1 epic gala dinner and countless catchups with friends and previous colleagues. It’s exciting to be a part of BW ESS, supporting its growth in Australia and delivering energy storage projects that can help unlock a more flexible, resilient energy system. It was clear from the various discussions held throughout the conference that BESS is playing a central role in achieving this outcome. Thank you to everyone I caught up with, our current and potential partners, the Clean Energy Council and everyone who contributed to such a strong event. Our team has been actively contributing to key conversations shaping the energy storage market across Europe.   Last month, Nikhil Koppaka, Senior Commercial Manager, joined industry leaders at Energy Storage Summit At The Battery Show Europe in Germany. He shared his expertise on the panel, “Setting Assets Up for Success: Aligning Revenue Strategies with Capital Structures,” and contributed to a discussion on why bankability isn’t binary. Nikhil also took part in Entrix’s Shifting Perspectives event on 15 June. On the panel, “Bankability isn’t binary,” he explored how revenue certainty, merchant exposure and financing structures need to evolve as the storage market matures.  Last week, Tiziano Caizzi, Investment Manager, spoke at Solarplaza Summit Italy in Rome. Joining the panel, “Analyzing the Economics of MACSE Projects,” Tiziano, alongside a panel of industry experts, discussed the upcoming MACSE auction including how MACSE projects can be structured, financed, and optimised in a rapidly evolving Italian energy market.   BW ESS is proud to be part of these important industry conversations. Last month, we hosted partners from National Grid and National Energy System Operator at our 400MW / 1,424MWh Hams Hall battery energy storage system (BESS) site.   Visits like this are a great example of our close partnership on these projects – working side by side from development through to delivery to ensure safe, efficient, and well‑coordinated connections to the grid. Yesterday, 12 colleagues from BW ESS took on the JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge in London’s Battersea Park. From first‑time runners to regular racers, everyone supported each other – a special shout-out to Evelyn, our fastest finisher, who completed the 5.6k course in an impressive 25 minutes! This was our first time entering as a team in London, and it was a fantastic evening bringing together colleagues from across Europe.
