Few cars carry the cultural weight of the Aston Martin DB5. Introduced in 1963, the British grand tourer became shorthand for taste, style, and modern luxury. Today, as the official watch partner of Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, Breitling channels that legacy into the Top Time Tribute to Aston Martin DB5.  The Top Time launched in the 1960s as Breitling’s “unconventional chronograph,” created for a new, youthful, and speed-obsessed audience. In football ⚽️ (or soccer, for our American readers), a game of fine margins where seconds can decide everything, accurate timekeeping ⏱️ isn’t just important, it’s essential. Starting in the 1950s, Breitling created purpose-built watches for football officials. This latest installment of Since 1884 explores one of the more overlooked chapters in the histories of both football and Breitling, with a timely nod to our favorite drum-beating Viking brand ambassador.

Following last year’s Coppi and Bartali editions, Breitling continues its tribute to cycling legends with the Top Time B01 Eddy Merckx. Few athletes have left a mark on their sport quite like Eddy Merckx. The Belgian cycling legend achieved 525 career victories—an unmatched record in the history of the sport. To honor this extraordinary legacy, we created a special-edition Top Time, limited to just 525 pieces—one for every victory.   The Top Time B01 Eddy Merckx limited edition pays tribute to the champion with a striking yellow dial—a color forever associated with Merckx—paired with crisp white subdials. His name appears on the tachymeter scale at one o’clock, while his signature sits above the six o’clock index. Emperor card or citizen card? Which do you choose? For the sharp-suited villain of the Japanese manga Kaiji, Yukio Tonegawa, it was easy. After all he used his Breitling Chronomat as a secret weapon to cheat his way through an all-or-nothing gamble in the 1996 Japanese manga against the titular character, Kaiji.    High-stakes gambles by way of a simple game. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Netflix’s most watched show Squid Game, drew inspiration from Kaiji—a cult manga that’s still going strong after 30 years.
