Never at the computer

It’s been a long time since I last posted. Time is limited since Mini was born but since I use public transport for the commute to work I get some thirty minutes most workdays to knit. However, I never have time to use the computer for anything but paying the bills and I do prefer to at least finalise posts on the computer (at least in terms of layout). So I will put that aside and try the mobile device only route for a while. Hopefully that will produce some new posts on this blog again.

With me on the train today is the belated MKAL Princess and the pea. Only a few rows left.

Giving a little

Many knitting designers have decided to donate parts of their sales to organizations working with helping Haiti. You can easily browse through the eligible patterns on Ravelry. So if you haven’t already, I suggest you go buy the patterns you want now instead of later. If you do not know what to buy go and look at what some of my favourite designers have to offer: Ysolda Teague, Adrian Bizilia, Connie Chang Chinchio and Laura Chao.

Although I’m not sure how much I’m actually giving since I still get great patterns. So I’d like to thank all the designers for being so generous.

Birthday card

A while back I went to a scrapbook and stamp fair and bought some stuff. Or a lot of stuff (hence the yarn purchase ban). I mainly bought stamps and ink to colour paper. This is what I’ve done so far:

papercraft

It’s not too difficult and quite quick, but I think I’ll need a bit moore practise before going ahead with the scrapbook project which it is intended for.

I’ll be back

in a week or two. I’m handing in my “half way” thesis (Licenciat in Swedish) in one week. Still a lot more to do. Many hours each day are spent writing, but I try to wind down at least a little bit every evening with some knitting. The first fiddlehead mitten is done (except for weaving in the ends) so I’m knitting on the Triinu shawl. It is quite meditative. Exactly what I need at the moment.

Planning ahead

Yesterday, we took a long stroll down town. Browsing through some stores. It was a nice sunny day albeit a little chilly. The yarn stores were closed, but the book stores were open. So, I bought Wendy Bernard’s Custom knits.

After a quick flip, it seems to be a nice book, and she has put in quite a bit about how to alter the patterns to your own liking. I think I will use the pattern Jewel for my Colden chai yarn.

The first Fiddlehead mitten is almost finished so I wonder how to block it. I did not have to wonder for long because in the tip jar of no. 38 This week in Ravelry was info on how to block mittens. I will try and make a mitten blocker of the same wire as my blocking wires. Hopefully that is strong enough.

Computer issues

There’s been trouble in the digital world since my return from Germany. First a dysfunctional broadband connection and then the computer died. With a new memory it worked for a day but then did not start again. So until we get it working or get the new laptop I will not have the possibility to post very often, only when I bring my work laptop home.

For now I’m working on puck and the Fiddleheads. It’s been awhile since I’ve knitted on puck and it’s quite nice. It’s a soothing rhythm to the brioche stitch pattern. It will take me some time to finish the sweater but I hope I will have it done before the end of the year at least.

The state of things

They were supposed to finish the renovations this week. This is what our kitchen and bathroom looks like today.

They cut off the water on Wednesday so now we eat dinner made in the microwave or take-out, use only plastic utensils. It’s not too bad tough but I will sure be glad when they are done. And hopefully we will get a really nice looking kitchen and bathroom.

Terrible terrible thing

I need a new computer. Just  now I could not accces Ravlery!!! No ravelry….. only a Problem loading page. What should I do? Before the terror took a complete hold of me I started my boyfriends computer and with fingers crossed I entered the url and pressed entered. Oh those long long 2 s before I was greeted by the login page of our dear dear Ravelry. Halleluja! What would I do without my daily dose of Ravelry.

Therefore I need to buy a new computer. My computer is old and should be retired already. I’m thinking of getting a laptop, a cheapo thing maybe with Linux and not Windows.

Road bumb

There has been some progress on the Puck sweater. I knitted a few rows on the body after joining under the arms but then I wanted to knit at least the beginning of the arms so that they work. This is where I ran in to a litttle problem. I need to rip it up and make some more stitches for the arms because there were holes in it. Not very pretty.

It’s a wooly sweater and since I won’t finish before spring I have lost the energy to knit on this project for now. It will be a great sweater though, rather unique.
