Carbon moves through every stage of our business, from growing forests to the wood products used in homes and buildings. In 2025, West Fraser became one of the first forest companies in North America to quantify its full carbon impact. Our approach measures changes in forest carbon stocks, emissions from our operations, changes in wood product stocks, and the potential avoided emissions when wood products are used in place of more emission-intensive materials. “With the release of the ISO standards last year, we moved quickly, aligning our company-tailored methodology with them,” said Branden Beatty, Senior Manager, Climate. “We now also include the additional benefits of displacement, which is a measure capturing the potential avoided emissions when our wood products are used instead of more fossil fuel-intensive materials like concrete or steel.” The approach aligns with international standards and provides a more complete and credible understanding of the role forests and renewable wood products can play in a lower-carbon future. A major rail freight development at our Inverness mill in Scotland has created a direct connection to the Aberdeen to Inverness railway line. Recently, team members were pleased to welcome Stephen Flynn MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport, to learn more about the project and our operations in the Highlands. The project will help move timber and finished products by rail, supporting a more efficient, resilient and lower carbon supply chain while strengthening connections across Scotland’s forestry, manufacturing and construction sectors. "West Fraser is a strong example of turning opportunity into delivery. By enabling timber to move by rail, this facility is supporting a more efficient, resilient and low-carbon supply chain." said Stephen Flynn MSP. As our understanding of nature-related risks and opportunities continues to evolve, sharing what we learn can help build knowledge across the forest sector. Alongside the release of our first Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)-aligned report focused on our Alberta operations, we're sharing the supporting methodology so others can learn from and build on our approach. Developed in collaboration with the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI) and supported by our project partners, the methodology provides a practical road map for assessing nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. "Nature-related reporting presents distinct challenges for forest sector companies, particularly when it comes to translating complex ecological data into credible, decision-useful disclosures," said Kirsten Vice, Senior Vice-President, Sustainability and Canadian Operations at NCASI. “By sharing our methodology, we hope to contribute to a stronger collective understanding of nature-related risks and opportunities in the forest sector,” said Shyanne Pasha, Senior Manager, Sustainability Performance, West Fraser. At West Fraser, we are committed to giving students the opportunity to see how their studies connect to the day-to-day work of the industry. Recently, our team at Angelina Lumber in Lufkin, Texas, welcomed students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry for a tour of the mill. “Many of our current employees are graduates of the Stephen F. Austin program and we’re glad to be able to support the next generation with their learning,” said Kurtis White, General Manager, Angelina Lumber. “Opportunities like this build on our long-standing relationship with the university while enabling students to connect their education directly to the workplace.” During the visit, our team members walked through all aspects of running the mill — from a focus on safety and training to procurement and production — providing students with a sense of how different functions come together. Thank you to the students for a great day filled with many interesting conversations. We wish you every success as you build your careers. Throughout June, West Fraser marks Canada’s National Indigenous History Month, as well as National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21. Across our Canadian operations, teams recognize the month in different ways, taking time to reflect on and honour the cultures, contributions and histories of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. One example comes from our Slave Lake Veneer mill in Alberta. Every year, during the first week of June, employees gather for a Tipi raising. This year, with guidance from Métis District 21 directors, we worked together to raise the Tipi, followed by a smudge ceremony. The afternoon wrapped up with a BBQ, providing an opportunity to connect and spend time together. West Fraser is committed to building meaningful relationships with Indigenous Nations, communities and businesses. That work continues throughout the year as we look for ways to foster economic opportunity and help build stronger, more resilient communities. You can learn more about our approach to Indigenous Relations in our 2025 Sustainability Report:https://lnkd.in/d3VFyrYe

On World Environment Day 2026, we’re highlighting how West Fraser is advancing nature-related reporting. We recently published our first report aligned with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), focusing on our Alberta operations. The TNFD framework enabled us to assess our impacts and dependencies on biodiversity, water and ecosystems and translate those insights into business risks and opportunities. Through this work, West Fraser is strengthening internal decision-making, enhancing transparency with stakeholders and contributing to the evolution of nature-related reporting across the forest sector. Every day, our products begin in forests. From the wood products used to build homes to the products people rely on every day, healthy forests are at the foundation of what we do. During U.S. National Forest Week (May 31 – June 6), West Fraser recognizes the people and partners who help keep our forests healthy through responsible forest management. This work spans forest renewal, biodiversity, water stewardship, monitoring and the use of science and technology to guide decisions on the land. Thank you to our partners for their ongoing commitment to caring for forests—today and for future generations.
