Last week, our co-founders, Dr. Macarena Cataldo and Ahmad Erfan, had the opportunity to attend the BlueTech Research Ignite Forum hosted by Nike. What made the event special wasn't just the conversations around water innovation it was the people. We had a great time connecting with our local ecosystem, meeting fellow entrepreneurs, and engaging with leaders across the textile and apparel industry who are working toward a common goal: protecting water. As a company inspired by science, innovation, and collaboration, we left with a simple reminder: solving the water crisis is a team sport. No single technology, startup, brand, or manufacturer can do it alone. Real impact happens when different players bring their strengths to the field and work together. There is still a lot of work ahead, but seeing so many organizations aligned around this challenge gives us hope. We're excited to announce that Viridis Research Inc has been invited to join the Bangladesh Alliance 4 Water Reuse (A4R). Convened in May 2025 with support from the World Bank Group's 2030 Water Resources Group, A4R brings together government ministries, industry, technology partners and global fashion brands including H&M Group, Primark, Ralph Lauren, BESTSELLER, American Eagle Outfitters Inc., Marks and Spencer, and PUMA Group, to solve the growing water consumption and pollution problem facing Bangladesh's textile industry. A4R's ambition is clear: to reduce total wastewater generation in the Greater Dhaka watershed by 20% by reusing and recycling roughly 350 million cubic meters of water each year. At Viridis, we are proud to be one of a select number of technology partners in the alliance, and we're excited to partner with government, industry and brand partners to give water a second chance in Bangladesh. Last month, our CEO, Dr. Macarena Cataldo traveled from Vancouver to Bangladesh with one goal: to prove that water reuse in textile manufacturing isn't a far-fetched dream — it's achievable right now using our proprietary electro-oxidation technology. Our brand and mill partners challenged us to treat six different wastewater streams from different parts of the textile dyeing process. And with each successful water trial, our team proved that a more responsible future for fashion is within reach. This pilot represented more than just a technical breakthrough. As much as anything, it was about trust, partnership and a shared commitment to protecting water in one of the world’s largest textile hubs. If closing the water loop in textile manufacturing were easy, everyone would already be doing it. So what makes it so hard? Textile wastewater is a complex cocktail of different dyes, surfactants and salts that change constantly. Traditional treatment systems are built for consistency and often can’t handle the variability of this wastewater stream. Viridis’ technology is built specifically for the unpredictability of real dyeing operations. And this month in Bangladesh, we’re showcasing the power of our water treatment and recycling solution by treating six separate wastewater from different parts of the textile dyeing process. We’re on the ground in Bangladesh! This month, our industrial pilot reactor is in Dhaka for our largest field test yet - three textile mills, six separate sets of tests, for one of the biggest fashion brands on the planet. Why Bangladesh? Because this is where the world’s textiles are made. As the second-largest exporter of ready-made garments globally, Bangladesh exported approximately $38.48 billion in RMG products in 2024, with ambitions to reach $100 billion in apparel exports by 2030. It is also where severe water stress intersects with large-scale industrial production, making it an ideal environment to pressure-test novel water treatment technologies for maximum impact. Textile dyeing generates wastewater rich in chemicals, colour, and salts, making effective treatment both critical and difficult. While water reuse has long been discussed, it only becomes possible when treatment is robust, reliable, and fit for mill operations. That is the challenge we are here to address.
