Why is it so difficult to introduce new technologies into the mining industry? On the latest episode of the Leaders On A Mission podcast, our CEO, Mohammad Doostmohammadi, shares his perspective on one of mining's biggest challenges: balancing innovation with the realities of an industry built around safety, reliability, and long-term investments. As demand for critical minerals continues to grow, the industry is reaching a turning point—one where adopting new technologies is becoming a necessity rather than an option. But innovation isn't driven by technology alone. It also requires the right people, diverse perspectives, and teams that are willing to challenge conventional thinking and embrace new approaches. A special thank you to Simon Leich for hosting such a thoughtful conversation and for the opportunity to discuss the future of mining, innovation, and the people driving change. 🎧 Listen to the full conversation to hear Mohammad's insights on technology adoption, leadership, talent, and what's shaping the future of the mining industry. pH7 Technologies
Metal Ore Mining
We’re setting a new standard for metal extraction — maximizing recovery, minimizing impact.
About us
pH7 Technologies is a Canadian company developing next-generation critical-mineral extraction technologies for both primary and secondary resources. Through its proprietary closed-loop organo-electrochemical process, pH7 enables mining and recycling operators to economically recover metals from low-grade ores, tailings, and complex feedstocks that have historically been uneconomic or technically challenging to process. The company operates a commercial PGM extraction facility in Vancouver and is rapidly scaling its mining-sector applications, beginning with copper.

Congratulations to pH7 Technologies on receiving up to C$5 million in funding support from Natural Resources Canada to advance the evaluation of its proprietary on-site copper production technology. Copper is becoming one of the defining materials of the energy transition. As demand accelerates across electrification, AI infrastructure, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing, the industry is looking for new ways to increase supply while improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The project will evaluate pH7's closed-loop process for producing 99.9% pure copper cathodes directly from low-grade sulfide ore at the mine site, while also generating green hydrogen as a by-product. If successful, the technology has the potential to improve recovery from lower-grade resources, strengthen domestic critical mineral supply chains, and support a more sustainable approach to copper production. Congratulations to Mohammad Doostmohammadi and the entire pH7 Technologies team on this important milestone: https://lnkd.in/e-sn9SKY

We're pleased to announce that pH7 Technologies has received up to $5 million in funding support from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) through the Energy Innovation Program's Mining Decarbonization Demonstration Call for Proposals. The project will advance the evaluation of pH7's proprietary closed-loop copper extraction process using samples from Taseko Mines Limited [Trekor Metals'] Gibraltar Mine in British Columbia. The program will generate the technical, environmental, and economic data needed to evaluate a process designed to produce 99.9% pure copper cathodes directly from low-grade sulfide ore at the mine site, while generating green hydrogen as a valuable by-product. As demand for copper continues to grow, this project reflects the importance of advancing Canadian innovation to strengthen critical mineral supply chains and support more sustainable resource development. We are grateful to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) for its support and to Taseko Mines Limited for its collaboration on this important initiative. AI infrastructure is creating unprecedented demand for critical minerals. At Web Summit Rio, pH7 Founder & CEO Mohammad Doostmohammadi explored a challenge that is often overlooked in conversations about AI, data centers, and electrification: As demand for AI infrastructure accelerates, so does demand for the metals that make it possible. Copper is the backbone of the infrastructure that powers AI—from electricity generation and grid networks to transformers, substations, and data centers. Yet traditional approaches to metal supply face increasing challenges, from long development timelines to permitting, capital, and resource constraints. The opportunity is not simply to find more resources. It is to rethink how metals are produced. From recovering critical minerals from recycled materials and urban mines to improving recoveries from low-grade ores and tailings, new technologies will play a critical role in building the resilient and sustainable supply chains needed for the AI era. As Mohammad shared during the keynote: "The next generation of AI infrastructure will be enabled not only by better chips, but by better metal production." Thank you to Web Summit Rio for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation. #AI #CriticalMinerals #Copper #DataCenters #Mining #CleanTech #CircularEconomy #EnergyTransition
