Hearts Open for Everyone (HOPE), in partnership with Earthscape Play, is proud to share highlights from the official unveiling of “The Song Continues”—a landmark mural created by lead artist DRPN Soul (Kalkidan Assefa) and assistant artist Simone Patricia that honours the history and legacy of the historic Black settlement of the Queen’s Bush. Unforgettable Moments from Saturday: - MC - maedith radlein - DJ - Angel P (Donnique W.) - Soul-stirring musical tributes by QBS descendants Tracy Johnson and Diana Braithwaite, alongside Chris Whitely and Joy in the City (Verese Vassell-Bowen). - QBS descendants who travelled across the border to be here, including Keith Bell (Sacramento, CA, Brown family), Teajai Travis (Windsor, ON, Travis family), and Robin Moore (Chicago, IL, Hissons family) - QBS descendants who live locally also visited, including Darlene Jones (Mallot family), Karen Burke, Corey Martin, and Georgina Cole nee Wilson (Brown family) and her daughter Debbie Rudolph. - A unified community commitment to equity, truth, and cross-cultural belonging. (RTO4) - Destination Ontario - Township of Woolwich - Explore Waterloo Region - County of Wellington & City Of Guelph Tourism - Mapleton Historical Society & Wellington County Historical Society In addition to the physical artwork, the project expands educational access through digital infrastructure: - The Queen's Bush Explorer: An interactive mapping tool showcasing exact 19th-century Black settler land parcels and heritage sites. - Self-Guided Driving Tour: Connecting regional visitors to physical historical locations across Mapleton and Woolwich. - Full artist statements, partner profiles, and historical context.
