Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are running the Reading Half Marathon on 5th April to fundraise for Parkinson’s UK.
Until recently, Parkinson's was not on our radar, but in February 2019 Catriona's dad was diagnosed with early stage symptoms. For those who don’t know Paul, he is a fit and healthy 21 year old at heart (and has been for an additional 45 years!), so this came as a shock to us all. Paul could still run laps around us all, but to give us a chance, he'll be cheering us along from the sidelines this year!
Whilst we're not hoping to beat Paul's 1 hour 11 minute half marathon, we're targeting a sub two hour (Ollie) and sub two day (Cat) half marathon to raise as much as we can to find a cure for Parkinson's.
As well as raise money towards a cure, we also hope to raise awareness of the disease, which is so far incurable. Parkinson's affects 1 in 350 adults in the UK, with symptoms ranging from tremors, to muscle freezing to cognitive disorders. Please visit the Parkinson's UK website for more information about treatment, research and living with Parkinson's: www.parkinsons.org.uk
For those who know Ollie and I well, our Sunday mornings are not normal spent running 13.1 miles, therefore your support and donations are greatly appreciated. Whilst our bank balance and waist lines are appreciating our training, spare a thought for the reluctant victim: our local pub.
If you're interested in following our training journeys, please follow us on Strava (Catriona McCarron & Oliver Neil), to watch Ollie run laps around me.
Thank you once again for visiting our page and supporting this important cause.
