The Roosevelt Row A.R.T.S. Program needs volunteers to help spread mulch on the A.R.T.S. Market lot, to keep down dust during market days. This is an easy way to get involved! Show up this Saturday morning at ten!

Easter Brunch at the Heard Museum
The Heard Museum is the place to be on Sunday, April 24! Enjoy a special brunch buffet at the Cafe from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring delicious dishes. Fill your ears and spirit along with your appetite with the sweet sounds of Canyon Records performer Gabriel Ayala. At 1:30 p.m. mosey over to the Steele Auditorium for a special fancy dance and jingle dress performance by Lane and LaDawn Yazzie Jensen.

A.R.T.S. is a vacant lot activation program launched by Roosevelt Row Community Development Corporation (CDC) to address the urban blight of empty lots in downtown Phoenix. Temporary activation projects for A.R.T.S. include art and craft markets, gardens, public art, cultural festivals, outdoor film and concerts. Would you like to be a part? A.R.T.S. is currently seeking artists and crafters to further expand their Markets. Application deadline for May participation is April 29.

She created this new work while living in her studio on 5th street (between a coffee house and a live music bar, and behind the parlor doors of a public living room) during a two month stint of collaging/painting herself to safety. “The Things in Between” by Jen Urso
Exhibition at Modified Arts
Jen Urso presents a collection of videos, photographs, drawings, and writings that explore the subtle messages communicated in the gaps between social and urban spaces. What can be said in a silent moment between conversational utterances? What do the empty spaces between buildings say about a city? The artist explores the connections between these questions, and more. Modified Arts will also display Urso’s yearlong daily drawing, which she has aptly titled “Efforts of Persistence.”

“Psychomachia” is a collaborative mixed media exhibit by local artist Jerry Portelli and Tennessee artist R.L. Gibson. Never having met in person, the two artists cultivated a relationship via technological correspondence that resulted in a unique series of diptychs exploring the line between vice and virtue. Each piece highlights the artists’ technical skills, visions, and unique perspectives.

Intertemporalist Steampunk Exposition at Alwun House
Alwun House hosts Phoenix’s first Steampunk exhibition. The Steampunk style draws from the ethos of science fiction writers like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, and the aesthetic of the steam-driven technology of Victorian industry. 17 Valley artists, including Eddie Sparr, Steve Gompf, Lindsey Bessanson, and the Brose Brothers, present works ranging from sculpture and painting to fashion adornments.
