Poppy plates

These are the first 2 sandwich plates. I see major flaws, but won't talk about them.

They are cheerful looking at least. I would love a sandwich and veggies on one.
 I like the shape of them, with a rim that gradually climbs.

Glazing like Georgia

O'Keefe that is! Her poppies...or my version of them....

Onto plates this time.

This was just before coating the with a couple of layers of clear matte glaze.  They will be sort of creamy colored, with hopefully brilliant red flowers.

In case you wondered...first the yellow in the center is over a layer of black, so it probably will be black with a few specks of yellow where it was thinner.  The little dots will probably blend in.  That's the plan anyway.

And why did I make 3 plates, you might ask.  Because one had a crack, so there aren't 4. And I plan to only use 2 for the show at the Red House next week.

And when they are glaze fired, they'll shrink a bit more, and be nice sandwich plates.

The poppies are popping up everywhere!

 The white of the outside is a smooth unfinished, but vitrified clay surface...I think it's a great contrast to the shiny bright red of the poppy.  Of course it's food safe.

Mugs with poppies GALORE!

I like a design, so I go with it EVERYWHERE!

From the first 4 mugs, to now 2 more different sizes and shapes...there are now a dozen with hand painted poppies a la Georgia O'Keeffe designs.  I am thrilled with them, because I like her paintings.  They aren't decals, they aren't even drawn on first, but just brush after brush of different colors of Mayco Stroke And Coat glazes, red, black, orange, turquoise and yellow.  That's it.

The white is studio satin white.
The black liner is studio matt black.

Which shape or size would you prefer?

Jumbos on left are straight sided.  Curved shaped mugs (on right) start medium size and go up to a large!  All my mugs have Celtic Cross thumb knobs.

 We're the curvy girls. Sizes from 12 oz to 20 oz.

 And we're the straight sided differently sized ones!  Holding from 14 oz to 20 oz.

Straight? Curved?  Your preference...or maybe a bit of both!

Smaller mugs don't cost less, because after all, the same amount of effort goes into making them.
The clay is the least valuable aspect of the mug...so another ounce of clay might cost $0.01 or less . And larger mugs don't cost more for the same reason!  It's the various steps to make something collectible for you that counts.

Don't miss the vase which I posted earlier, and soon there will be a pitcher also with the O'Keeffe style poppy.

O'Keeffe style poppies again

Now I've done a vase, which still has a bit of Georgia O'Keeffe's style...and is pretty brilliant (meaning the colors are vibrant!)

I started with these 4 medium size mugs. All my mugs have Celtic Cross thumb knobs.

The vase can certainly stand alone, or have some great green stems of flowers coming out of it...what do you think?

Everything is hand painted, while looking at an O'Keefe painting.  Dishwasher, and food safe.

Mugs for Monday

The Georgia O'Keeffe style...some bright poppies, and these will cheer up anyone's day!
Hand painted with Mayco Stroke N Coat glazes. There were no decals used, which a comment on Facebook brought to my attention.  Decals are great, but not for me...I want each object to be a piece of different art, not a manufactured item in any way.
