The new Red House and Gallery

 The Red House lost it's home last winter, as a new landlord didn't renew the lease. BUT things got much better for them.

The Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League (SVFAL) is the oldest art association in the area. It was nicknamed the Red House because they were located in a renovated old house painted red on the exterior.  Here's my post about the former "Red House."

But now they have an excellent location in the center of Black Mountain, on Cherry Street.

I'm posting both photos because the first shows the corner where Cherry St. and State St. meet, and this second of the new façade shows a little (well big) arrow pointing to another entrance on the far right.

This leads upstairs to artists' studios where they also sell their work. And classroom space as well.

For now I am not thrilled with their signage...just a sandwich-board on the sidewalk. 

It is a well appointed gallery space, though a bit crowded compared to some others. The SWFAL has a theme for their exhibits, which is posted at the entrance.

I am on their mailing list still, from when I was a member and volunteered to sit in the gallery in the Red House. So I'll include these two current postings they are offering:

Every Tuesday from 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM at the The Red House Gallery & Studios

Bring your favorite - or wannabe favorite - or not so favorite - or not new to you - medium & project, and create while you share space with other creative types. All mediums and projects welcome! Open to members and non-members!

 Fee: $5 per session, to cover classroom rent.

Open Studio

 

The Red House open studio is an ongoing event, offering members and other interested artists opportunities each week to draw and paint the live model.  

The model fee is $15.00

New show at the Red House Gallery: Feathered Fantasy

 Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League is a great group of artists, who put on different shows with themes throughout the year.

For this summer there are pieces which feature something to do with feathers. I got to hostess the desk and the studios Friday the 21 of May. So of course that means opening and then locking up, as well as turning on lights and air conditioners, and fans...then doing the reverse when it closes at 4 pm.

I had been scheduled to do this last month, but I had to bow out. My recovery from the latest bout of pneumonia took longer than I expected.  But now I'm doing well enough to walk around Lake Tomahawk, with a few breaks.

I'll share more pictures in the next few days. Please feel free to comment about any that you may like.

My art (and others) at the Red House till the end of the year

At least, showing until it is sold! A lot of things disappear for holiday gifts in this season!

Here's my Mountain Mandala.

A not so secret place for beauty/art in Black Mountain NC

It's tucked back from the road, not invisible, but you need to know where to look. Between the Black Mountain vet building and the Monte Vista Hotel...on the north side of State Street - easier to find the second time!  Look for a little two story house, which is red with white trim.  Of course that is the Red House!

A few nights ago (Nov 8) was an opening of the latest show "Music of the Mountains."  And there was live mountain music performed in one of the galleries also! A bit of a squeeze, so I took photos of that art beforehand.

 I know I try to put all the art I see on this blog, so I'm going to let you browse through today, and only have one (or maybe two) more posting of the Red House show that is up till the end of December 2019. (The Christmas ornaments will be on two trees and are limited availability!)

If you happen to see some cats in ceramic on the tree, those are mine! (and a dragon and an angel!)

 I still don't know what "Lampwork" is...do you?
