Ski week 2025

We made it up to our favorite place at Brighton Resort late last night.  I guess it wasn’t too late because, even after hauling all our gear and food up the mountain, a couple of the kids got one or two runs in before close last night.  (We have gotten so fast at unloading the car and getting everything to the cabin now that the kids are older and carry most of the weight!) Even so, today was officially Day 1 of our ski week.  What a dream!
It was a beautiful, sunny day right from the get go.  Last week there was a super cold spell that came through Utah, but this week it’s warm, sunny and so beautiful up here on the mountain.  We couldn’t have asked for a better day to start out our week. The Baldaufs met us first thing this morning and we skied hard and fast and I always love the groomers first thing in the morning.  The kids favorite are the terrain parks and we definitely get our share of those throughout the day.
Mid-morning Liev decided it was ACTUALLY warm enough to strip off his layers and ski in just his tank.  He looked hilarious and awesome at the same time.  It didn’t last all day, but he did sport that for a while before he put his coat back on.  It’s my favorite thing to watch my kids ski and they just keep getting better every year.  We hit Snake and they took me to all their favorite spots and showed me what they can do.  I typically follow along behind or beside them as they dart in and out of trees and hit as many jumps as they can.  It’s such a delight for me as a mom to see them do their thing!

Of course, we get some cabin time too so that we can recover from skiing hard.  We had a good lunch break before we got back out there again.  Chair 1 is a coveted chair on the lift and we got it today! Lucky us! We were so grateful to have Brad and Sharon with us for the day and said goodbye to them before it got dark.  Thanks for taking the time to be with us!

Night skiing is especially fun and the crowds thin out quite a bit once the sun goes down.  We had some good runs and then had some good time just hanging at the cabin later too.  Beck is in to a good book right now and doesn't want to put it down, Liev is our resident “kindling” man and Keen is always searching for time on a screen.  Josh, Rhen, Rease and Beck finished the night strong out on the slopes before unwinding for the night and eating dinner at 9:00! Successful first day!

Our call signs for the week:
Desh - Ice Viper
Beck - Hangman
Keen - Kamala-no-good
Liev - Make a Wish
Rhen - Shred-Zeppelin
Rease - The Keeper
Mom - Abominable Snow-ma
Dad - Ski-Daddle

We had to adjust and censor a couple of the names that were first chosen, so this is the end result and what everyone came up with for the week!
