Eco dying and zooming!

We did some more eco-dying stuff this weekend using black turtle beans.  Comes out an interesting purple-y colour, too!!    This piece is the cotton and we might do a second dye on it as the colour fades a little as the material dries.

We got some interesting patterns from where the beans were, though!

This is the piece of silk we used...... got a stronger colour on that one!

And then later on, we Zoomed with Cocoa Beanie and Sandy Bear!!!   Cocoa Beanie got the knitted vest we made him!!!

 

More ecodyeing!!

We did another ecodyeing experiment last weekend, using red onion skins and cloves with a piece of dupion silk and a larger piece of white cotton.  We let it stew overnight, and this is how it came out!!!

Oh, we put a rusty piece of metal in as well, that always seems to make a difference!

It's dried now, the cotton's gone quite a bit paler.....

The silk has retained a lot of the colour though - olive green with bits of blue and silver and a good reddish brown!  I like that!!

The cotton has some good bits on it, and I think we might give it another dyeing session just with the cloves, see what that does.

It's fun that you can see where the string went, when I tied up the bundle!!!

More eco dyeing!

We had a big piece of white cotton and a red onion and a red cabbage so we decided to try another dye batch.  We cut up the onion and cabbage and wrapped it up in the cotton and tied it up with string.

Then we put it in a big pan of water and heated it up.  Boiled it for a bit and then let it stand overnight.

This morning we put the cotton in the bathtub to open it up.......

It's stripey!!!!

That's kind of interesting!

It's an olive green with purpley tinged stripes in between and some red splotches!!!
