  • Winegrowers need to make decisions about disease, irrigation and crop management in conditions that can change quickly. Better information can make those decisions easier. Atfield Technologies has developed 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 to give growers 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 from their vineyards, combining sensor data, weather intelligence and predictive analytics. Through EIT Food's 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀 programme, the technology was tested with growers in real vineyard conditions. This gave Atfield the opportunity to validate its models, gather feedback and adapt the technology to different growing environments. The company was also recognised with the 𝗘𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 for 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲. Atfield reports: 🧪 an average 30% reduction in chemical spraying over three years 💧 estimated annual water savings of 1,000 litres per hectare ⏱️ 50% less monitoring effort Its story shows the value of giving agrifood innovators opportunities to test their technologies alongside the people who will ultimately use them - an important part of turning innovation into practical solutions for more resilient agriculture. 📖Read the full Atfield Technologies success story: https://dub.sh/B5k9SXa #ResilientAgriculture #Agrifood #EITFood Vukasin Pejovic Srdjan Tadic (Срђан Тадић)

  • 🌱𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘁. From the discussions at 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵, one thing became clear: adoption doesn't begin with technology. It begins with trust. The conversation explored why transparency, early dialogue and practical demonstrations are essential if biotechnology is to move beyond the lab and into everyday practice. The discussion made one thing clear: biotechnology won't scale through technology alone. Building trust with farmers, consumers and regulators is just as important as developing the innovation itself. As Matthew Ramon from European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reminded us: "Innovation cannot go without safety." He also highlighted the importance of early, transparent and open dialogue between regulators and innovators to help reduce uncertainty and support responsible innovation. From the farmer's perspective, Matteo Mazzola brought an equally important message: "We need simple language and transparency." And perhaps the most practical takeaway of all: "For farmers, seeing is believing." Demonstrating technologies in real-world conditions, speaking a common language and involving farmers from the beginning will be essential if innovation is to succeed beyond the lab. 🌍 At EIT Food, we're helping create these connections across the agrifood ecosystem, bringing together innovators, regulators, farmers, industry and consumers to accelerate responsible biotechnology adoption. 📖 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿? 🔗 Read our new deep dive article on why the 𝗘𝗨 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶-𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 matters now: https://dub.sh/xJORhZG 🌱 Explore the 𝗘𝗨 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶-𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: https://dub.sh/g4lct7X 👏 A big thank you to Abbie Roberts, Matthew Ramon, Durk Bosma, Tommy Alexander Schmid, Nettie Buitelaar, Matteo Mazzola and Melisa Duman for sharing their expertise and perspectives. #NextBite #Biotechnology #Innovation #Trust #Agrifood #EUAgriFoodBiotechAlliance

That is the thinking behind 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮 𝟯𝟲𝟬º, an initiative bringing together farmers, researchers, businesses and public institutions across northern Spain. Since 2024, the programme has supported 𝟯𝟴 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀, using 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟳𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗲𝘀 to develop personalised farm plans based on scientific evidence rather than assumptions. • 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲’𝘀 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆. As Europe looks to strengthen its competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy, food and feed biotechnology have an important role to play. These innovations are directly connected to some of Europe’s most urgent priorities: food security, farmer resilience, healthier diets, sustainable production and industrial competitiveness. Agrifood biotechnology can support farmers with improved seeds, bio-solutions, bio-fertilisers and bio-based feed. It can help companies scale sustainable ingredients, nutrients and advanced fermentation. And it can give consumers access to healthier, more sustainable food options built on trust, safety and science-based assessment. That is why EIT Food has joined industry organisations and its partners in calling for a comprehensive 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗜𝗜 that fully recognises food and feed biotechnology as a strategic priority for Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and sovereignty. Europe has world-class scientific expertise and strong industrial capability. But fragmented ecosystems, limited scale-up infrastructure, regulatory complexity and financing gaps continue to hold back its potential. 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗜𝗜 is an opportunity to create a coherent framework that supports investment, infrastructure, circular feedstock valorisation and trusted regulatory pathways - helping Europe retain innovation, scale production and strengthen its food system. Food and feed biotechnology must be part of Europe’s biotechnology ambition. #AgrifoodBiotech #FoodSystems #InnovationMadeInEurope #ImprovingFoodTogether

Kern Tec looked at the same side stream and saw an opportunity to create nutritious ingredients for the food industry. Today, its upcycled ingredients are used in products ranging from plant-based dairy alternatives to confectionery. And the impact goes beyond new products. 🌱 Life cycle assessments indicate that Kern Tec's upcycled kernel ingredients use up to 𝟵𝟱% 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 and generate 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟱𝟬% 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 than conventional nut ingredients. As the company has grown, it has attracted strategic partnerships and investment, demonstrating the commercial potential of turning agricultural side streams into valuable food ingredients.
