𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗹𝗲? Because it has to do... seemingly contradictory things 👇 ◉ Absorb impact when the foot hits the ground. ◉ Stabilize the body during stance. ◉ Return energy to propel the next step. The challenge? These 3 functions require different mechanical behaviors. A more compliant structure improves comfort and adapts better to the terrain. A stiffer structure provides greater stability and more efficient energy return. It's difficult to optimize both at the same time. That's one of the main limitations of today's passive prosthetic feet. Most rely on a single blade that has to do everything: support body weight, store energy, and release it at the right moment. But one structure can't be optimal for such opposing functions. The biological ankle works differently. It distributes these roles across different structures that work together. This biomechanical principle inspired the development of Lunaris: separating functions instead of asking a single component to do it all. Nature doesn't compromise.
