Visiting my kids for the weekend. This is their coffee table book. I adore this book. Always re-read and laugh when I'm here!

What a game! Was disappointed Rapinoe didn't get to play. Great birthday present for Morgan. Both teams played well.

What the hell did I just see a few minutes ago? I want to see some seriously high scoring on England's part.

Chernobyl

Well, I finished Chernobyl this weekend.

The show is excellent, isn't it? I finished it this weekend. I remember Chernobyl very well myself. I would tune in to the evening news each day. Back then in the States we had a late night news program called Nightline. I'd watch that as well. Those Nightline clips are still up on the internet.

The scene on the bridge with floating ash was so beautiful and so heartbreaking. I finished university a couple of years before. One of my childhood friends went with me and was a nuclear engineering major. I chose another engineering program. I always thought mankind wasn't quite ready for nuclear science. Many lessons to learn, but those lessons are catastrophic.

(sorry for formatting; I'm on a phone.)

It's that time!! So excited. Congrats to Italy and Brazil this morning.

This England vs. Scotland game is good. I don't know who to cheer for (moans).

And England's up!

Update--what a great game. Well played. Both teams looked good. England an excellent job. Can definitely see them contending for the whole thing.

I received two wonderful commissions recently from the very talent Mythlorn. Mythlorn is on Twitter and Pillowfort. He's a great artist to work with. Very professional, timely. Definitely check out his work. Posting the Twitter links below.

Finished up the show. Really well done. Loved the story, acting spot on. It was a delight. I so enjoy finding little gems like this. A lovely Saturday afternoon well spent. Cheers to all.

Good Omens is up on Amazon Prime.  Excuse me for several hours.

Down two episodes. Have to get to bed. LOVE IT. Such a treat.

Standout quotes thus far:

Get thee behind me thou foul fiend...After you.

I think I’ll call him dog.

Really is a delight. I’m just smiling.

Back home from my biz/vacay trip to Sweden and Norway. Had a fabulous time. Both countries are absolutely stunning. Loved the whole vibe of Scandinavia. Felt so at home. Absolutely loved Stockholm. It's just so interesting -- love all the different islands, the ferries -- such beautiful green spaces everywhere you turn. Bergen was nice -- the fjord tour was amazing. My pictures don't do it justice. Everyone had told me it would be cold, ha; I was so hot. The sun was beating down on the boat and I'm totally sunburned. It was actually National Day in Norway when I visited. Everyone was dressed up in their traditional clothes. The evening torch parade was interesting -- nothing like seeing the townspeople marching past the boats on the wharf carrying torches (reminded me of the Feanorians for some reason) and made me feel like going out and plundering and marauding!

Here's a little collage I did of Norway (link).

Posted some Sweden pictures at this link.

We're under a severe thunderstorm watch. I LOVE spring storms. Bring it on. Especially at night. It’s so refreshening and smells so intoxicating. Having an excellent Friday night. Relaxing on our covered balcony and letting it all wrap around us.

I hope everyone had a good Easter holiday. I was able to decompress and we had beautiful weather. Birthday was this past weekend and the kids came in to celebrate.

Exciting news — FINALLY — after years of business travel to nondescript places, I’ve actually landed a stellar biz trip. I’m off to Stockholm in a week or so for a series of meetings. Going to wrap vacation time around it and hit Bergen Norway as well. I can’t wait! Certainly on my “bucket list” for places to go. Going to hike, see fiords and smell the flowers (if there are any yet—temps aren’t quite the same as South Texas!. Our spring has come and gone). I actually know a work colleague in Stockholm, so I will have fun times there. Bergen itinerary is all set.

If anyone out there is either in Stockholm or Bergen, love to meet up and buy you a drink.

Man, this weekend couldn't come quick enough. Work is a total death-march this month. Not enough hours. We're supposed to have lovely weather this weekend. Hoping to decompress on the patio. Everyone have a great weekend.

Went to bed last night depressed, thinking about Notre Dame. A very loud, obnoxious bird woke me up around 2am. Instead of rolling over and going back to sleep, I picked up my phone and quickly scanned the news for updates. The pictures somewhat reminded me of old church ruins. Next thing I know I'm off on a search and read escapade. In order:

  1. Fountains Abbey
  2. Glastonbury Abbey
  3. Dissolution of the Monasteries (I'm still pissed about this particular event)
  4. Richard Whiting
  5. Hanged, Drawn and Quartered process
  6. King Arthur's Excalibur and cute story of girl finding a sword in the same lake that the King supposedly threw it in
  7. Edmund I
  8. Edward II and debate over whether he died as stated or lived on in exile
  9. Hugh Despenser the Younger and interesting article on discovery of bones at Hulton Abbey
  10. BBC article from 2005 -- "Worst Historical Britons List" (this was interesting)
  11. Prince William, Duke of Cumberland
  12. Charles Edward Stuart (I don't know why, but I now know he's buried in St. Peter's Basilica)

It's now 6:45am and I'm exhausted. Time for coffee and starting work I guess.

Just heartbroken about the destruction today. The cathedral is just so iconic and symbolic. The architecture, the glass windows, etc. were just magnificent. I took my daughter to Paris in 2007. These photos are mine of Notre Dame from our trip. Such a horrible loss of beauty and history.

B2MeM Prompt, Card and Number: Non-Traditional Art Form, Comment on a Fanwork, G55
Format: Comment

Check out the card -- come on I21 for March 31st's number!

Well, for non-traditional art form I thought of the wonderful
Melkorts4 on Tumblr, Instagram and DA
. Great creations using The Sim 4 plus photoshop. Favorite characters focus on Melkor, Mairon, Manwë and other Valar. The designs are so unique. Gorgeous use of textures, styling. The facial features are just iconic. The video clip sequences were amazing.

B2MeM Prompt, Card and Number: Created for a Fest or Exchange, Comment on a Fanwork, N32
Format: Comment

Running behind here! When I saw the prompt for commenting on an exchange, I immediately thought of the Tolkien Secret Santa Exchange. Thought I didn't participate directly, I loved seeing all the wonderful stories and art posted. It's a great exchange.

One story that I particularly liked was One Step Closer by NelyafinweFeanorion (maedhrosrussandol on Tumblr), written for @rosengreen.

It's a great story describing how Maitimo and Findekano grew close while Maitimo was tutoring Findekano. I really like how Finwë's thoughts of what they had to forsake when coming to Valinor was woven in, and Finwë's desire to speak with Maitimo to reassure and support him.

B2MeM Prompt, Card and Number: New-to-You-Character, Comment on a Fanwork, O64

Though I've read quite a bit of the Tolkien collections, I'm always learning something new. One area I've never really gotten into is the Númenóreans. The "Tar-"s this or that finally all start blending together. Also, anyone who knows me realizes I'm a hopeless Feanorian fan-girl.

If you are interested in learning more about strong-willed and entertaining Númenórean women, I recommend checking out Most Bright by Lyra. Lovely tale about Ancalimë, an independent-minded princess.

Additionally, you can't go wrong reading the "Character of the Month Biographies" on SWG. I always learn something new and interesting each month.

Enjoy.
