Autism Moms Thursday Appreciation

Autism Moms Thursday is here again. Today, I want to take time to appreciate our kids. I don’t know about you, but I spend a lot of time teaching my son and worrying about him. I make plans for what we are going to do everyday and how we are going to do it.

There are days when I have to make myself stop and think about what he wants. I will turn the day over to him and do whatever he wants. It could be walking around Home Depot. Up and down the aisles, especially the lighting aisle, over and over again. It could be going to the park and walking (as long as it isn’t in the middle of winter). It could be playing a game or watching a movie together.

I love these days. It’s relaxing to take a day and not have an agenda to accomplish. The joy on my son’s face when he has control is priceless. These are our best days. It seems that we actually accomplish more on days like these. It’s playing towards his strengths. Building on them. Theses days refuel us and allow us to go back to working the next day.

Parents are not the only ones that feel the stress of our lives. Our children also feel it. They respond and react to what is around them, just as we do. It’s nice for my son to be able to take control of his life, what he does. He enjoys being in charge. My son is getting older and needs a little more independence. When he is allowed to take charge, I can see a change come over him. It’s like he grew from being a baby to a pre-teen right before my eyes.

Autism Moms Thursday Christmas

I know it has been a while since I have done an Autism Moms Thursday. Sorry about that. For this one, I thought we could share Christmas stories or pictures. Here are a couple of pictures from Christmas Eve at the in-laws. It was nice to see my kids and their cousins together. Of course, they had to figure out which presents were their's. All About Kids Guard Lizard

My son was sent this lizard for Christmas. My husband saw it and said that our boy will love it. I had the opposite reaction. There was nothing cute and cuddly about it. It makes lizard sounds when you push the button on it's back. It's a lizard!

Time for mommy to rethink what boys and girls like. Since Christmas, Mr. Lizard has been on guard duty on my son's bed. Only special, beloved items are allowed on my son's bed. Guess I need to start consulting my husband before buying anything for our son in the future.

Small Talk Six 6 Gifts You Didn't Want

Today’s topic is “6 gifts you or someone in your house received that you’ve regifted or donated in the past.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

1. Donated: Jeff Gordan toddler boy outfit. My husband doesn’t like Gordan.

2. Donated: Duplicate toys. Over the years, there have been many duplicate Christmas gifts. We would keep one and donate the other one.

3. Regifted: Fragrant lotions. I was allergic to them, so I gave them to someone else to appreciate.

4. Regifted: Toys given to my son that were not appropriate for him because of his developmental age.

5. Regifted: Gift card to a restaurant that we wouldn’t be able to go to.

6. Regifted: Does it count when I give my son’s presents to my daughter because he wasn’t interested in them and she was?

That’s it. Not too bad.

Today's theme: Give Me Five favorite or un-favorite things to shop for. Here's my five un-favorite things:

1. I hate shopping for clothes for myself.

2. Shopping for groceries with both kids and without my husband is horrible.

3. Going to the store and buying an item my husband needs to fix something around the house. I know nothing about tools or plumbing accessories.

4. Shopping with my husband for plumbing accessory. Boring. At least we end up leaving the store with what he needs.

5. Shopping for bras. Keep in mind, I rarely get to the store without one or both kids. Trying to pick out the right bra with my kids trying to get me to take over to a different part of the store tends to lead to me picking out the wrong bra.
